Quarantined With the Lumberjack - Page 22

“No.” They hadn’t spent that much time together: only an hour or so. They’d had a great time talking, but that was all it had been: talking. Mostly, they’d talked about the project. Now Luna realized she’d messed up. She should have asked more personal questions. It would have been a great chance to get to know Caroline a little better.

“They met at a pub,” he said, shaking his head. “My grandfather took her home and she just never left. Five kids later and the rest is history.”

“Five kids?”

“Five,” Brody nodded.

“And it was a one night stand?”

That was basically what she and Brody had experienced. Well, it hadn’t just been one night, but now she never wanted it to end.

“One night, and they knew. Sometimes, you just know. Luna, with you, I know.”

Her heart swelled, and she shook her head because she did not want to cry in front of him. Not over this, but she felt like he was right because she felt it, too.

“Brody, are you saying you want to date me?”

“I’m saying I want more than that, sweetheart, but I’m willing to take it one day at a time. Let’s not say goodbye just yet, okay?”

“Okay,” she whispered, and she reached for him, pulling him close.

She didn’t want to say goodbye, either. Not to Brody. Not to the man who made her heart sing, and finally, it seemed like she’d found someone who agreed with her on that. He was just as enamored with her as she was with him, and that was honestly kind of wonderful.

Epilogue

She graduated with honors, and then Luna packed up all of her stuff and moved to the mountains to be with Brody. She needed to be with him. It wasn’t even a question. She hadn’t been expecting to fall in love with a guy like him. She hadn’t been expecting to fall in love with anyone, actually, but she’d found him, and she couldn’t believe how lucky she was.

As she pulled into the cabin, Luna smiled. She couldn’t quite believe just how lucky she’d gotten. What had started off as research for her paper had blossomed into so much more. It was incredible, really, and she couldn’t quite believe it had happened to her.

He was standing on the porch of their home: her lumberjack. He was tall and fit and muscular, and she hurried out of the car and ran to him. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him. It had only been a week since she’d seem him last, but it had been a week too long.

“Hey beautiful,” he said, kissing her softly.

“Hi handsome.”

“I missed you.”

“Missed you more.”

“Impossible.”

She ran her hands up his chest and wrapped her arms around his neck. Then she kissed him just a little bit more. Oh, Luna knew she would never get tired of kissing this guy. Not him. Not ever.

“I love you,” he whispered, and when Luna looked up at Brody, she knew that he meant it. More than anything else in the world, he meant those very special words, and she loved him for it. Adored him. Luna knew that the two of them were about to embark on a wonderful adventure, and she couldn’t wait to get started.

Just her and her lumberjack.
