Monster Dragon (The Feisty Dragons 3) - Page 19

She’d been put in a hard spot by her boss. She didn’t like the fact that he’d basically made her feel like shit. Leon had forced her to choose morals or money, and she’d chosen morals. It didn’t feel good, though.

Wasn’t making the right choice supposed to feel good?

“Are you okay?” Dragon turned to her suddenly. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“You smell anxious,” he said.

“Smell?”

She was embarrassed, suddenly. Did she stink? Was that what he meant? Oh, she didn’t want to be stinky. Not for the dragon. Not for him. She definitely didn’t want to be his stinky human lover. No way, no how, no thank you.

“I mean, I’m scenting you,” he said, flustered.

“Scenting?”

“I’m a shifter, you see,” he said.

“Oh.”

She had figured that much out.

“Yeah.”

“So, you can smell emotions?”

“I can.”

“And I smell anxious?”

“Yes.”

“It’s just a work thing,” she said. That was the truth. She was feeling totally anxious about work, and she had no idea at all what she was going to do about it.

Sooner or later, she’d have to face the fact that the weekend was going to end, and she’d have to hurry up and find another job.

Otherwise, she’d be evicted.

She’d be cast out of her home, and there was no chance anyone was going to rent her a home after she’d been evicted for failing to pay. Crap.

“Hey,” Dragon stepped over to her and reached for her chin. He tilted her face up to his. “Whatever it is that’s bothering you, it’s going to be okay, all right? I promise.”

Winter didn’t know why, but in that moment, she believed him. She trusted him. She knew that he was telling the truth. He might be a total stranger to her, but he wasn’t the type of stranger who was going to lie.

“Yeah,” she whispered, licking her lips. “Okay.”

Chapter 7

After a long, hot shower in his bathroom, Coconut appeared in the kitchen where Brian was reading emails. He looked up at her and smiled. Oh, this weekend just kept getting better and better, and it was still only Friday. He knew she had things to do on Monday, but she’d planned to spend the weekend on Sapphire Island doing...what?

Hanging out on the beach?

Oh, the weekend could be so much better than that, and they would start right now.

“Coconut,” he murmured, standing up and walking over to her.

“Dragon.”
