Tempting the Hitman (Men of Ruthless Corp) - Page 16

I stop once I’ve filled her womb and rest on my elbows over top of her. We’re both breathing hard, and my face is cradled between her breasts. I’m pretty sure I’ve died and gone to heaven because nothing could be better than this right here. Or so I think.

“Colt, look at me.”

I lift my head, and she’s staring down at me, biting her lip. “Did you mean it?”

I run my thumb across her lip to stop her from hurting herself. “I meant every word. I love you, Kinsley Adams.”

A smile takes over her face, and her eyes light up. “I love you too, Colt Stone.”

I don’t want to wake her. She’s sleeping so peacefully, but there’s no way I’m leaving her here alone.

“Kinsley.” I say her name softly.

She doesn’t move, and I smile as I lean across the bed and kiss her lips. “Kinsley, sweetie.”

She startles, and her eyes pop open. “What? What is it?” she asks, looking around the room.

No doubt she’s having flashbacks of the last time I woke her up and had to shove her under the bed. “We need to go in to the office.”

We talked about this last night, and I told her I was going to have to go in and meet with the guys so we could get a plan together. I wanted to introduce her to everyone and make sure she was comfortable before I head back west.

“I don’t like it,” she says for the tenth time since she got out of bed. I cleaned up the pizza box in the kitchen, and unfortunately the only thing I have to feed her for breakfast is toast and coffee.

“I’ll get you something else on the way.”

She rolls her eyes. “I’m not talking about the food, and you know I’m not. I’m talking about you going back to California. I’m talking about you leaving me here. I don’t like it.”

“I need you to trust me to do this.”

“I do trust you, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

She follows me to the car, and I drive downtown. I pull up to the nondescript building with the accounting sign out front. She looks up and down the road. “Accounting?”

“What? I don’t look like an accountant?”

“Well, with that beard, those muscles and tattoos... no, you don’t look like any accountant I’ve ever seen.”

I grab her hand and am so thankful she’s smiling. The plan for today is to meet with the guys, take her to the gym and teach her some self-defense moves, go home, and then tomorrow I head back to California. The guys will protect her while I’m gone. I know they will.

When we walk in, Nash, Knox, Jax, and Bear are already in the conference room. I make the introductions, and even though I trust the guys, I keep her by my side. Especially when Bear comes over to hug her. He’s called Bear because he literally is as big as one. The man is massive, and no matter where we go, the women seem to be really into him, even though he never notices it.

We sit down, and I look around. “Where’s Riggs?”

Knox jumps in. “He’s in his office. He’s checking on something, and he said he’ll be in a minute. I might have to duck out. I got a call from someone, and I need to go check on it.”

I can tell Knox is on edge. “Anything we need to help with?”

“Uh, no, at least I don’t think so. I got a call from an old buddy of mine I was stationed in Texas with. His sister-in-law is here, and he needs me to check on her.” He waves his hand. “It’s not a big deal.”

I nod just as Riggs comes in. He has an anxious look on his face.

Nash looks at him. “What did you find out? Is it what I thought it was?”

I look over at the commander of our group. He’s in charge of every operation we take out of here. And even though my mission in California was more personal, I know he was here the whole time monitoring it all.

Riggs nods his head, and Commander Nash cusses. “Sorry,” he says, looking at Kinsley.

She waves him off but doesn’t say a word. It’s as if she can tell the climate has changed since Riggs came in.

“Do you want me...” Riggs asks.

“Yeah, might as well tell him,” Nash says.

“Tell me what?” I ask, staring between the two men.

Riggs clears his throat. “Well, I’ll start with the good news.”

“Good news?” I ask skeptically.

“Yeah, Kinsley is no longer in danger.”

“Rogue said there were four hitmen...”

Riggs shakes his head. “Yes, there were. Four men accepted the hit. One was Dick Gallo, the one you killed in Kinsley’s classroom. The second was Harry Malone, who was killed in the university parking lot. The third hitman was Tiny Gallo. He wasn’t supposed to accept the hit since his brother did, but I guess they had some kind of competition or something. Now they’re both dead.”
