“Speaking of Cam, he needs to stay with someone tonight, and I was wondering if it would be okay if we stayed at my place, so he could stay there with us?” Her eyes light up with mischief.

“Oh, that will totally work. I was going to see if Tiff wants to stay with me, so she doesn’t have to drive back and forth to Dallas until her apartment is ready. Ya know maybe we can get the wheels turning for them? What do you say, baby, wanna play matchmaker with me?”

Chapter Thirteen

Matt

I’ve spent the last two weeks trying to come up with the perfect way to ask my girl to marry me, and in those two weeks, I have fallen in love with her even more.

We are vastly different in many ways, but somehow it works for us. Juliet really is my other half.

Two days ago, it finally dawned on me the perfect way to propose. I enlisted the help of Tiffani. She has this giant binder of things she makes sitting on the counter in her bakery that people can use to place orders.

Inside I found a solid milk chocolate shoe. Since Jules has what I would call an unhealthy relationship with shoes, it’s perfect for what I have in mind. Jules is at work and has appointments all day, so I know that she won’t find out what I planned for us tonight.

Walking into “Tiff’s Treats” I see Cam already here talking to Tiff. Jules wasn’t kidding when she said he had his work cut out for him. I have never seen someone so small be so fiery. She reminds me a lot of Jules. As she hears the bell above the door jingle, she looks up and gives me a big smile.

“Hey, Matt.” I hear Cam let out a slight growl as she gives me the warm greeting both of us ignore it and I walk over to the counter

“Hey Tiff, you ready to do this? I need it to be perfect.”

Rolling her eyes, she gives me are you a dumbass look.

“Do you really think that I would let my best friend’s proposal not be perfect?”

“Uh… No?” She starts to giggle.

“I love fucking with you. I'll be right back I’m going to show you the shoe mold I made up.”

“I would have never known.” I give her a raised brow and chuckle. When she turns the corner, I slap Cam on the back.

“Hey bro, how’s it going?”

His shoulders drop, and he sighs heavily

“Man, I don’t know why she won’t give me the time of day. She is a total firecracker, and all I wanna do is throw her over my shoulder and make her see that we are perfect for each other.”

“That sounds an awful lot like kidnapping, so I don’t recommend that method exactly, but good luck man. Jules seems to think she will come around soon, so there’s that.” I say, trying to reassure him. He just looks so miserable. He opens his mouth to say something, but Tiff comes back in before he can.

“Hey man, I’ll see you later ok.” He gives me a shoulder bump and starts to walk out of the bakery before he walks out he turns around. “I’ll see you tomorrow sweetness.” He says with a shit-eating grin. It takes everything in me not to laugh when she huffs and stomps her foot when she stays there staring at the door I clear my throat and try to change the subject.

“So how about we see that shoe?”

“That man is so infuriating.” She says as she sets a bakery box on the counter. Removing the lid, she pulls out a tiny cake stand that has the most adorable chocolate shoe on it. “As you can see I jazzed it up a little.” She says as she points to what looks like diamonds across the toe of the shoe. “These are edible and made of sugar.”

“Tiff, it’s perfect.” I am in awe of her talent.

“She’s gonna love it,” Tiff says.

She refused to take any money for it, so when she goes to the back to get a cooler box, I slip a hundred dollars into her tip jar. I’m not sure if she gets it or Verity, the morning shift waitress, but either way it will be put to good use as Verity is still in college.

I have everything planned for tonight. I have a great picnic spread and I plan on proposing to her underneath the stars. My mom gave me my grammys wedding ring that she left for me when she passed away three years ago. It is a gold princess cut solitaire ring that I had Tiff put it on the chocolate shoe. I was going to have her put in inside, but I've seen several patients that have swallowed their fancy rings. I don’t plan on that happening to my girl. Jules is getting off work at six and I plan on surprising her there and having us go straight to my parents’ house.

They have a beautiful gazebo that is surrounded by all of my mother's favorite flowers and flickering lights. It is the perfect place to ask my girl to be forever mine. The day goes by surprisingly fast with everything I am doing to make sure tonight is perfect. I am done by 5:15 which gives me just enough time to shower and clean up before I go pick up Jules. When I get there Jules is locking up the shop

“Hey Dollface.” I tell her as I sneak my arm around her and give her neck a kiss

“Hey baby, I missed you.” she tells me as she melts into me.
