Ripples In Time (Maji 2) - Page 69

“I must go and ready myself for the feast in Levi’s honour. You will meet her th—”

“I have to wear my best ensemble! I have no time!”

After she shouted her words, she jumped to her feet and fled the room. I looked at Mikoh and said, “She is my sister, my moons and stars, but Mikoh, I will pray for you because you will need the patience of Thanas to deal with her.”

“As Nova says: tell me something I don’t know, my prince.”

We left the lounge chamber and went our separate ways. Mikoh went after his intended while I made way for my wing of the palace. I hustled up to the third level, made my way down four different hallways before I came to a sudden stop. I spotted Kah wiping down a section of a wall, and I grinned. I slowed my breathing, sank down low, and began to stalk towards her silently. Some of the patrols down the end of the hall saw what I was doing and paused to watch. Everyone was aware of my recent dealings with Kah, and I assumed they wanted to see if her instincts had improved. We all had our answer when she jerked her head in my direction and smiled.

“I heard you, my prince.”

“Good!” I beamed, straightening to my full height. “I am proud of you.”

Kah’s cheek flushed prettily as she stared up at me.

“You’re smiling, my prince.”

I nodded. “It seems to be shocking many people today.”

“Not me, my prince,” Kah boasted. “I knew you were capable of smiling. It was everyone else who doubted you.”

I laughed at her boldness.

“Shall I check your hearing?”

She stepped forward into my space, bobbing her head before I finished my sentence. With another chuckle, I placed my hands on her chubby cheeks, closed my eyes, and focused my lissa. I was pleased to see her hearing had remained the same as when I last checked it. I strengthened the cells that glowed, and even though I knew it was futile, I still tried to ignite some light into the dead nerves, but they remained dark. I let the power of my lissa fade and dropped my hands when I opened my eyes. Kah was still staring up at me.

“All is well. I strengthened the functioning cells, so that will help.”

“Thank you, my prince.”

“My pleasure.” I stepped to the side. “If you’ll excuse me, I must ready myself for the eve’s feast.”

“I could aid you if you need assistance when dressing for the feast, my prince.”

Kah’s offer stumped me because no male needed assistance when getting dressed. On Ealra, we only wore trousers and jewellery. The only reason a female servant ever offered a prince aid when dressing was to share sex with him, but I knew Kah could not have meant that. She wasn’t interested in sex with any of my brothers or my kin, and it was a sore spot for all of them to accept.

“I need no aid, Kah,” I said. “Thank you for your offer. You may continue with your work.”

I walked by her after she bowed respectfully. I reached my wing quickly and bathed in rapid time. After my hair dried, I braided it back myself. I rubbed my hand over the sides of my head, and I didn’t like the feel of the stubbled hair. Looking into the viewing glass, I grabbed a shaver and shaved the sides and back of my head like I always did. I had a long section of hair on the centre of the top of my head, but I always braided its length and let it hang down my back. When I was pleased with the look, I grabbed some of the gold diamond clips and placed them about my white hair.

I wanted to look my best for Levi. I couldn’t wait to see her.

I kept replaying my earlier conversation with her, and then our first kiss. I couldn’t think too hard about it because my cock took notice each time. It softened quickly when the cruel side of my mind reminded me that I had kissed and embraced Levi in the very spot where my intended had died in my arms. I couldn’t stop the sick feeling that gave me. I thought about it as I dressed in bright yellow bottoms and clipped on gold bangles to my wrists and biceps to match the clips in my hair.

A knock on my chamber’s door got my attention. I assumed it was Kah because she was the only member of the people who was permitted to be inside of my wing as she was my wing’s head servant.

“Enter.”

I was surprised when Narah, a seer, entered the room. Narah was a young male, fifty-odd years old, and he was one of only three seers within the people. His presence scared me.
