The Woodland Packs - Page 103

They were too big for me, and perfect for sleeping in.

“How’d you sleep?” she asked, and I shrugged.

She laughed knowingly. “You slept like shit because your mates are next door and you aren’t with them. I know the feeling.”

I looked at her, my head spinning with all the information they were all throwing at me.

“You know how surreal this feels, Claire? Yesterday I was single, happy, and focused on my career. And today you expect me to believe I’m ‘meant to be’ with three complete strangers? Men who aren’t whom I’d choose for my husband anyway.”

Claire gave me the eye. “You mean because they’re hot, horny and too dominant?”

I looked away.

“Don’t ignore me, Nevaeh. I know you want a guy you can control, who’s totally harmless. Short, chubby and less intelligent than you.”

Tears sprang to my eyes as she vocalised the exact thoughts I’d had. I wanted someone who wouldn’t hurt me.

And a chubby computer programmer sounded about right.

“Look at me, Nevaeh.”

I dragged my gaze back to where Claire was, now sitting next to me on the bed.

“But that isn’t what you need, and you know it.”

“Oh, really? You’re gonna tell me what I need?”

Even as I said it, I knew Claire had an answer for me.

“Of course, I will. You need a guy who’s strong and passionate and smart and amazing. Just like you are. The best part of having a triad is that you’re never lonely, and if one of them doesn’t have everything you need, one of the others will.”

“What do you mean?”

Claire grinned. “Well, for example, Dex hates cooking and so do I. So, Jay and Taylor do most of that. Jay’s super affectionate and smart, and Taylor can build anything you could think of. No matter what I need, one of them will always fit the bill.”

I hadn’t thought of it like that. “Look, Claire, it sounds great in theory, but I couldn’t imagine letting a guy like Grayson, who looks just like Trevor, anywhere near me. I know you said he’s a sweetheart but…”

Claire groaned and stood up. “Look, hun. Give them a chance, okay? This Trevor guy sounds like a narcissistic asshole, and Grayson may be many things, but he is not that.”

“How do you know?”

“Well, for one thing, the bear shifters attacked a month ago. They came for me.”

Shock rolled through me. They came for Claire? Why?

“What happened?”

She shrugged. “They didn’t even get into the house. My mates and yours stopped them. Grayson, Aaron and Brad all risked their lives for me that day, and they’ve been perfect gentlemen ever since.”

I couldn’t even imagine men being that selfless.

“I don’t know what to say.”

“Say you’ll give them a chance to prove to you that they are who they say they are. Because I will vouch for them, Nevaeh. I will. They’re hard-working, extremely sweet and you have to admit… pretty bloody hot.”

A smile kinked up my lips, though I tried not to let Claire see it. “Yeah… they are good looking. But that’s part of the problem—my attraction for hot guys in the past has gotten me in trouble.”

Claire literally threw her hands up in the air, or her non-broken arm, anyway.
