My Professor: A Nora Heat Novella - Page 23

She grinned and nodded. “Yes, Professor.”

I liked those words spilling off her lips. I grabbed the hotel phone and dialed room service. After placing the order and hanging up the phone, I found Zara on the balcony.

“Yeah, Mom, I promise I’m okay.” She glanced over her shoulder at me. “I decided to stay on campus.” She paused. “Are you with Darren?” Zara made a gagging face and rolled her eyes.

I laughed.

“Well, have fun. I’ll call you tomorrow.”

Zara hung up and sighed, looking at me out of the corner of her eye. “That was my mom.”

“You’re close with her?” I asked.

“I guess you could say that.”

“What does that mean?” She had all of my attention now.

“Biologically, she’s my mom, but growing up she always felt like more of a sister. Still does at times.”

“Oh.”

“She’s great, though. She just had me really young, and sometimes she forgets that she’s a parent with responsibilities. She tried to hide how excited she was that I was finally going to college and she could spend her time how she wanted.” She shrugged. “She said she would miss me, of course, but I knew she was ready to take her life back again. Right now, she’s with some arrogant jerk named Darren who owns a car lot.” Zara laughed. “He’s the kind of guy who is so full of himself he thinks he’s selling Ferraris or something.”

“Ouch. That bad, huh?” I laughed.

“Yeah, but my mom doesn’t take him seriously. She just uses him for good times.”

“And let me guess—you’re the complete opposite of your mom?”

“Oh, definitely,” she confirmed. “I’m more a homebody. I don’t mind spending time in one place, and I don’t care for parties or night life. But my mom—she has to move, has to be out and free or she goes stir-crazy.”

“And your dad?” I asked, hoping I wasn’t pushing it.

“Oh…he’s still around. Somewhere.” Zara shrugged. “He’s similar to my mom in nature. He doesn’t not claim me, but he’s also a lousy dad, so I don’t know. I don’t really talk to him that much. Probably like once or twice a year.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“Don’t be. It’s fine.” She smiled at me.

I couldn’t get into talking about my parents right now. Instead, I stepped behind her and wrapped my arms around her from behind, resting my chin on the top of her head. She was that much shorter than me and petite too. At one point I was really worried I’d hurt her, but she took all of me and even came during.

Just thinking about the sight of her mid-orgasm had me hard. She felt it too, even wiggled her ass on my erection.

“More?” I asked.

“I could go for another round.” She turned in my arms and started kissing me. I picked her up in my arms and carried her back into the room, placing her down on the bed. Just as I was about to kiss her again, there was a knock at the door.

“Shit.” I sighed then laughed. “It’s probably our food.”

Zara perched herself on her elbows and I adjusted myself in my sweatpants, making my way to the door.

The server placed our food on the table, and when he was finished, I thanked and tipped him. I didn’t miss Zara straightening her robe and pretending she wasn’t still heated from before.

“Let’s eat,” I said, extending my arm and offering a hand. She took my hand and smiled as I lead the way to the table. There was a lot of food, everything from French bread and soup to fruit with dip and hot sandwiches. I knew it was a bit excessive, but I wanted to spoil Zara in a way I hoped she hadn’t been spoiled before.

After sitting, I poured the cool white wine into two glasses as Zara dug into the food. She ate with gusto, and at one point, she looked up and blushed, one of her cheeks filled with food.

“Sorry,” she mumbled around a mouthful.

“Don’t apologize.” I chuckled, sliding her wine glass toward her. She gingerly sipped the Moscato, and I couldn’t help but chuckle when she made a face.

“Don’t like it?” I asked, taking a sip of my own.

“It’s…different. Really sweet,” she replied. “I’ll have to get used to the aftertaste.”

“So,” I said, picking up one of the sandwiches, “why English literature as a major?”

“Oh, gosh.” She nibbled on a piece of bread. “Promise you won’t laugh?”

“I won’t,” I said, smiling.

“Okay, well, I’ve always loved reading,” she told me. “And I remember when someone from a publishing house came to one of our career days in high school. She was a senior editor, and after she explained to me what her job entailed, I kind of fell in love with the idea of editing books. I already told you I wanted to be a writer, but I don’t think I have the persistence to be one. Editing is pretty close though, and I love anything sci-fi, suspense, young adult, and definitely romance.” She swallowed and looked down at her plate, and I could tell she hadn’t shared this with many people. “Does that sound silly?”
