THEA

Ihugged my dad. “Thank you for coming, Dad.”

“I’m glad I was able to,” he said. “We’ll talk soon and go over those ideas I had for the place.”

“I can’t wait,” I told him.

Reese and I said goodbye to the rest of our guests. I closed the door and leaned against him. “That was a lot of fun,” I said. “Thank you so much for letting us do that here.”

“This is your home,” he said. “I didn’t let you do anything. You live here. This is your home as much as it is mine.”

“You’re a good man, Reese Bancroft.”

“I can’t say I’ve heard that very often,” he said.

We walked back to the living room and turned off the lights. I was looking forward to studying the plans he had brought home. I didn’t get a chance to look at them when he first brought them home.

“Come to bed,” he whispered against my ear. “I’d love to worship your body.”

“I was hoping to look at those plans,” I said. “Just an hour. Then I will absolutely welcome your worshiping.”

“Those plans are still very tentative.”

“I know, but I’m so excited to see them,” I told him.

I knew how to persuade him. I kissed the side of his neck, the spot just below his ear that I knew he loved. I nibbled then licked before whispering the things I was going to do to him later.

“I told you,” he groaned when I walked away, dragging him behind me.

“What did you tell me?”

“You have me wrapped around your finger,” he said. “I’m putty in your hands. There is no hope I will ever recover.”

“But you’re very sexy putty,” I teased.

We went into the den where all three dogs were passed out cold. Kona had finally gotten comfortable enough to leave me alone in the house. Usually, she was at my heels. We sat down on the couch with me curled up against him. He handed me the iPad with the plans already pulled up.

“This is going to be so cool,” I said. “I love how clean it is.”

“Your shelter is clean now,” he said.

“Not like this kind of clean,” I said with a shake of my head. “I like how it’s organized. I love that there is actually a separate waiting area. And these rooms with the large windows to display dogs is awesome. We thought about doing this but just didn’t have the capital.”

“The designer said we can add a second floor if you felt like you needed more space.”

“No, this is perfect,” I said. “It’s beautiful. I’m going to put the plants in like he has in the drawing. It makes it look like a spa instead of a loud, stinky shelter. I don’t know how I’m going to wait two years for it to happen.”

“We might get it done sooner,” he said. “Sometimes, we get a tailwind and these projects sail through.”

“How soon until I can show Ally?” I asked.

“You can show her now. I wouldn’t advertise it quite yet but show her.”

I groaned again. “I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. It’s going to take forever.”

“We’ve got plenty to do to pass the time,” he said.

“Like?”
