I shook my head. “Get out.”
“Jake.”
“I said get out!” My voice boomed. I knew I shouldn’t have yelled, but I couldn’t take it.
I waited for her to lash out at me like she had the last time I lost it on her. I waited for her to raise her fists and duke it out with me. Surely, she’d have something to say for herself. She’d make excuses. She’d accuse me of being the asshole. She’d tell me she was done. Over me. Tired of this. Fed up. Exhausted. Drained.
Depleted.
Sick of hurting.
Sick of putting it all on the line for me.
Sick of pretending that I could be anything other than what I was.
But she didn’t do any of that.
Gabi crumpled like burning paper. She buried her face in her hands, sobbed, and ran out of my office.
I collapsed into my office chair as anger continued to pulse through me with every heartbeat.
Damn her.
