Bishop - Page 28

“Neither am I.Real life knocked us both upside the head and now we’re fighting for our footing. We’re gonna get it and, when we do, the two of us are going to be unstoppable.”He grips my neck harder.

“But when will we be feeling unstoppable? That’s what I want, to know nothing is going to touch us.”

“I’m telling you right now, Harley.Absolutely nothing is going to break us.”

I close my eyes, inhaling deeply.“There’s this dark cloud following me, Bishop.I should be so happy about everything going on right now, but I can’t shake it.It’s the doubt.Am I going to be a good mother? Is everything going to work out for us?It’s all knocking at the door of my brain, inching in every crevice that’s available.”There are tears in her eyes now.“I’m not the type of person who lets this stuff affect her. What’s happening to me?”

He gathers me up in his arms, taking us into the living room and having a seat on the couch.Once we’re there, he curls my body around his.“We’re changing, Lee.We have more than we ever imagined right now, in such a short amount of time. You’ve got hormones.I’ve got worries.”

I laugh loudly.“If that ain’t the truth, I don’t know what is.We’re gonna make it though, right?”

“Fuck the person who gets in our way.”

“I love you.”I rest my head against his.“Thanks for always having my back.”

“Nowhere else I’d ever be, babe.”

“Me neither.Thank you for loving me.”

He tucks a piece of hair behind my ear.“No thanks needed. That’s as easy as breathing.”

Closing my eyes, I inhale his scent and revel in just how lucky I am.
