Forever Mine - Page 188

He chuckles. “And you’re such a lovable tease.”

I giggle. “Is that your opener for asking me to marry you?”

“You’re so confident, huh?”

I stare out at the coloured sky like a masterpiece painted by god himself just for us to see. “This scene is so beautiful.”

Cal’s gaze fixes on me. “Yes, it is.” His fingers brush back my curls, blowing in the gentle breeze.

“A perfect setting for my gift?” I smile and hold out my hand, hoping he’ll stop teasing me.

He quirks a grin. “All right. You can have your earrings now.” He puts the box back in my hand but doesn't let go.

If this is earrings, I won’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“You’re right, it is a ring.” His hand trembles again. “For your middle finger.” He titters.

My cheeks ache from smiling. There’s a flutter in my stomach as I pry open the box.

A multitude of colours dance on the surface of the glistening rock attached to a platinum band. My hand covers my gaping mouth, and my eyes must match the sparkling stone as I well up.

My hand quivers along with my voice. “Cal.” The lump in my throat chokes my words. I can barely breathe, let alone speak.

He takes the box from me and removes the ring from the cushion. With an adorable smile that reaches his eyes, his hand holds mine, and he slips the ring on my middle finger, stopping when it won’t go past my knuckle. “Damn, it doesn’t fit.”

I giggle and swat his chest.

He removes the ring. “I guess you’ll have to wear it on this finger.” He slides it onto my ring finger with ease. “Until we can get it resized.” He chuckles with a tremble in his voice.

I hold my hand up, gazing at the small dazzling solitaire diamond. “I’m never getting this resized.”

He holds my hand, then gets down on one knee. “Does that mean you’ll marry me, then?”

The light bouncing off the ring causes me to blink and with it the tears formed in the corner of my eyes drip down my cheek. I kneel in front of him as my legs weaken and feel his rough jaw beneath my palms. As I gaze into his eyes, our noses kiss.

“Yes. Yes. Yes.”

Our lips collide, and our bodies press tight against each other as his strong arm pulls me close.

“It will always be yes, Cal. I should have said yes the last time you asked me.”

“I should have asked you in Blackpool years ago.” He kisses my cheeks, kissing away the tears. “At least I made you cry happy tears this time.”

“It’s a refreshing change.” I tease.

We hold each other, gazing into each other’s eyes, forgetting the magnificent view before us, until our carriage halts at the bottom and the attendant opens the door for us to get off. Like stepping off a cloud; a beautiful dreamy cloud, only it’s not a dream. I pinch myself to make sure.

Cal interlaces his fingers with mine. “What do you want to do now?”

“I want to go back to the room and make love to my fiance.”

He flinches his head back. “You have a fiance?”

I giggle. “Stop teasing me.”

“I’m gonna have to kick his arse.” He glances all around us. “Where is this dickhead?”

I grab his shirt and pull him closer to me. “He's right here.” I kiss him again. “Take me back, Cal.”
