“Veronica, no you….” Megan begins to plead, but I cut her off.

“But what about Blue?” I ask her, confused, but my thoughts are everywhere. With Veronica being on Ian’s side, it makes things so much easier. The fight won’t be as hard for the life I never imagined having, but I do know Veronica had some unresolved shit with Blue.

“Well-” she wrings hands together nervously.

The bubble I was floating in pops at how nervous Veronica has suddenly become. What could she be about to ask that’s made her demeanor change so suddenly? Even Megan’s looking at her skeptically.

“What is it?” I coax.

“I’m just going to say,” she says, inhaling a deep lungful before she lets it out. “I’d like one night with Blue.”

The bliss I was surrounded in a moment ago at the idea of spending the rest of my life with Ian completely dissipates as I read the underlying meaning of Veronica’s request, and Megan looks at her, confused.

“I’m sorry, what?!” Megan asks flabbergasted.

“She wants to fuck Blue,” I put it simply, rubbing my temples.

Megan gasps as her face turns beet red, but it doesn’t seem to affect Veronica. She holds my gaze and confirms my statement with a nod.

“That’s not the only thing, but yes, I’d like for us to be able to make love.” She says, more nervous than I’ve ever heard her.

“Yeah- that’s not happening. No fucking way. You’re not sleeping with Blue,” I state.

“Blue wouldn’t even agree to that,” Megan claims, a slight frown on her red face.

“Actually,” Veronica’s nervous smile gives away what she’s about to say next. “He already has.”

“I’m gonna kill him,” I declare as fire burns at my core.

“Oh shit,” Megan whispers, stunned.

“But he only said he’d do it if everyone agreed to it,” Veronica adds on.

“Well then, that’s the end of the discussion,” I tell her with a shrug. “I don’t agree with it. Blue’s like a brother to me, and thinking about it just grosses me out.”

Veronica rolls her eyes at me. “But he’s not your brother, and you’re acting like you weren’t attracted to him at one point.”

“It would have been a hell of a lot easier if you’d just ask to go on a date,” I state, shaking my head ignoring the earlier part of her statement.

“I just want to know what it’s like to be with someone that I love, even if it is for a day. Both of you know what it’s like, and I just want to experience it before I miss out on the chance to. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for, with what I’d be giving up.”

Still, I shake my head, my disgust at the situation evident.

But before I can express it any further, Megan decides to chime in.

“When she puts it like that, it’s only fair, don’t you think, Alana?” Megan says, and I wonder what she’s playing at, trying to get on her good side so she can change her mind about Kam?

Instantly I glare at her. “How would your beloved Kam feel about that?”

“Unlike you, I’m not intimidated by any love coming close to what Kam and I have, and he wouldn’t have to know.”

I clench my teeth together. Veronica’s vouched for Ian and me, if she wanted to, she could cause a hell of a lot more trouble if she asked for more with Blue, or hell demanded it, and she’s right. Who am I to deny her a taste of what I’ve had with Ian. It just terrifies me that once she gets it, she won’t be able to give it up, but Veronica is more level-headed than both Megan and me.

“Fine!” I say, throwing my hands up in the air. “I think this is a terrible idea, but if you promise that will be it, you have my permission…butonlyif Ian is okay with it. Good luck convincing him to let you sleep with his fucking cousin.”

“That’s fine.” She wears an optimistic smile now. “I am confident that if I make my case to Ian, he will understand.”

“Have you met Ian?” I ask with a dry laugh, still trying to deter her. “Ian’s never going to agree to it.”

“I’d like to be the one to discuss it with Helen,” Veronica says. “See where she stands on it.”

“Oh my God, that’s why he’s here, isn’t it? Fucking Blue!”

“No, that’s not why he’s here. I’d never do anything that will affect all of us without both of your permission,” she says, glancing between Megan and me. I recognize a tad bit of guilt in Megan’s eyes, and I have to admit I feel an ounce of it myself, but it’s quickly replaced with frustration that we weren't able to get Megan on the same page as we’re on. If Helen can’t talk sense into Megan, I’m hoping that the results will be on my side. I think if anything, this baby will be who saves us.
