Master of Kayos - Page 64

Quinn and Trentonsat in the office talking business while Kyllian took Nikita for a ride. Her girl was born to be on the back of a motorcycle.Hayden sent updates on the sidecar he was designing, and Quinn couldn’t wait for Nikita to see it.Quinn was excited for it to be finished so the three of them could ride together.Kyllian promised as soon as it was done, they would go on a family ride. She was looking forward to meeting his brothers and their mates and kids as well as spending more time with Rory.Kyllian’s mom had stepped in the last week, basking Quinn in her love.

“I’m going to sell the house,” Trenton said, bringing her back to the business at hand. They had been discussing how they were going to work separately with Quinn moving to Kyllian’s until they could build a house.

“Really?”She had hoped he would move to New Troy instead of staying in their huge house alone.

“I have no reason to stay here with you moving.I’m not going to be over an hour away from my girls.I was thinking I’d get something similar so you have an office and Nikita has her own bedroom for when she visits.”

“Dad, that’s a great idea.Nikita is adamant she learns more about computers so she can help me out.Kyllian offered to turn one of his spare bedrooms into a temporary spot while our house is being built, but I like the thought of still having an office wherever you are.”

“Did you decide on the property?”

“Yes.It’s not too far from Ryker’s.We’ll have almost thirty acres, most of it wooded. It’s not as much as we have here, but there’s enough for us to be able to shift when we want.I’m so happy you’re coming with us.”

“Me too.It also puts me closer to Sutton.I’ve missed my friend all these years. We talk on the phone, but I’d like to start getting out more.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Quinn, I didn’t mean—”

“No, I know you didn’t, but I’m the reason you don’t have any close friends.I’m the reason you stayed holed up in this huge house. You have no idea how much I appreciate you.And goddess, I love you.”Quinn stood and rounded the desk, kneeling next to his chair. She took his hand in hers.“You are the best father in the world. You deserved better than a punk teenager who lost her shit. And before you go blaming yourself for that, don’t.You were a single father doing the best he could, and it really was enough.I just didn’t realize it.I want to be the best mother to my daughter.Although Nikita’s an adult, I still want to be there for her.I want to make up for lost time, so I’m happy she wants to learn the business.Instead of going off to college, she’ll be with me.I know it’s selfish, but I want that so badly.Having you close will be the icing on the cake. It’s been you and me for so long, and I’m not ready to give that up.”

Trenton pressed his palm to her cheek.“I’m not either.Having Nikita in the business is a great idea. She can learn what you do, and in turn, you can start helping me in the field.I will want to retire at some point, and when that day comes, I will turn the whole thing over to the two of you.”

“And I’ll gladly take over at that point. You deserve to live for yourself now.Who knows?Maybe you’ll meet a lovely lady to spend time with.”

Trenton shook his head.“No.Your mother was my destined mate.”

Quinn rose and returned to her chair.“I get that, Dad.You’ll never have another one, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a companion to go to dinner with.Take in shows or travel with.If Mom hadn’t been gone almost twenty years, then yes, I would say it’s too soon. But it has been that long.Too long to be alone.”

“I haven’t been alone.I’ve had you.”

Quinn smiled softly.“We both know it’s not the same.I want you to promise me you’ll at least think about it.”

Trenton sighed.“I promise, but please don’t push.Things will be hectic over the next few months with both of us moving and setting up a new place.I also plan on spending as much time with Trouble as possible.”Trenton had adopted Kyllian’s nickname for Nikita.

“She is kind of smitten with her Papa T.” With Nikita’s prior home life being ingrained, it took time for her to realize she wasn’t expected to be the cook and maid.Nikita had taken over cooking, promising she didn’t feel it was what they expected. She truly enjoyed being in the kitchen, especially when Trenton acted as her sous chef. They made a wonderful team.Quinn appreciated not having the responsibility. It gave her more time with her mate.So far, everything was perfect. The only issue Quinn hadn’t addressed fully was Kyllian returning to Dominion. He hadn’t brought it up, but she had overheard a couple of phone conversations when he thought she was out of earshot. One was from his buddy Gunnar who had stepped in when Kyllian needed the time off.The other was from the owner of the club asking when he was coming back.Kyllian told them both he needed more time and explained he had a new mate and daughter to focus on.

Quinn didn’t want him to resent her.She didn’t want to take away something he felt was a service to others. That was another reason she was ready to move. She needed to meet Charlie and Wynter.Find out how they handled their males being part of the lifestyle.Charlie did scenes with Spyder, but Quinn wasn’t a sub.She wasn’t into pain other than spankings as she’d recently discovered.Living with her father and Nikita didn’t offer much privacy, so they hadn’t been able to really explore things in the bedroom. If Quinn joined him at the club, they could use one of the back rooms and get as loud as they wanted. That alone was reason enough for her to at least see what it was all about. As soon as they got her things moved, she was going to offer to go with him.

The gate alarm beeped, and Quinn’s heart sped as it did every time she saw her mate and daughter together.Nikita adored Kyllian. If she didn’t know how special he was, Quinn might be a little jealous of their bond. For all she’d been through, Nikita was a light in the darkest of times. She drew everyone into her orbit, but no one loved her as fiercely as Kyllian did.For that, Quinn was grateful. She needed a father who wanted her for the snarky, brilliant teen she was, not what was in her DNA.

The last couple weeks had been a learning curve for all of them.As per Nikita’s wish, Kyllian called the school, explained how she needed to finish the school year online, and they accommodated her.She was still on course to graduate top of her class but refused to return and walk across the stage with her classmates.

The front door opened, and Nikita bounded into the office, her cheeks flush from the crisp air.She wore the aviator cap Kyllian had found to go under her helmet, her goggles perched on top.Nikita removed her heavy leather jacket and draped it over the empty chair, settling on Trenton’s lap.

“What’s the skinny?”she asked.

“Your bony butt,” Trenton responded.

“Ha!”Nikita squirmed, digging said butt on his thighs, and he promptly dumped her off onto the floor.

Kyllian entered the office, one eyebrow raised.“Trouble, why are you on the floor?”He continued past the two of them and took his place behind Quinn’s chair, leaning over to kiss her temple.

Nikita scrambled to her feet, taking the chair next to Trenton. She pointed at him.“Ask Papa T.It’s all his fault.”

“Right.”Kyllian pulled at Quinn’s ponytail, carding his fingers through it.“Pop called while we were out.He and Mom will be here in about an hour with the truck.”Quinn wasn’t taking much with her, but it was enough they needed a rental van.Sutton offered to bring it so they wouldn’t have to return it to New Utica afterward.

“Oh, I need to grab our clothes out of the dryer.”Nikita popped up and took off, snagging her jacket as she went. That was another thing the girl insisted on helping with. She didn’t mind doing laundry, but she hated dusting with a passion.Kyllian, for whatever reason, didn’t mind the task.He said it was soothing.Quinn had a feeling he did it so she and Nikita didn’t have to.
