“Who’s Jeremy?Your mate?”Kyllian asked.

“No, my brother.”

“You said Nikita’s in trouble.What happened?”Quinn asked.

Mercy glanced at Kyllian before answering.He uncrossed his arms, trying to look less imposing.

“Nikita always knew she was different.She has your size and coloring.When she asked why, Blake told her that she took after her ancestors and left it at that, but the whole pack knows her story, and one of her friends mentioned her real mom was a dire wolf.That caused a shitstorm, and Nikita demanded to know about you.Blake lied to her.Said you didn’t want her, left her with him and Bethany, then took off.Since the pack knows better, Tarryn, her best friend, told her it was a lie.Blake banished Tarryn and her parents from the pack, and Nikita ran off the night after they packed up and left.All the best trackers went after her, but we lost her scent in Texas.”

“Why didn’t you call instead of coming here?”Quinn demanded.

“I wasn’t sure you’d believe who I was without seeing me face-to-face.”

“Was Nikita aware Quinn’s original pack is in New Mexico?”Kyllian asked.

Mercy nodded.“It’s possible.Quinn admitted that’s where her family’s pack was from when she first arrived, so it wasn’t a secret.”

“Shit.If Dennis gets his hands on her, we’ll never get her back,” Quinn said.She turned to Kyllian.“Is she telling the truth?”

Kyllian had no reason to doubt Mercy’s story, but to be sure, he used his Gryphon voice and asked, “Is everything you’ve told us the truth?”

Mercy gripped the bars of the gate, no doubt fighting the compulsion.“It is.”

“How long since you lost Nikita’s scent?”Kyllian asked.

“Two days.I left Jeremy there to keep trying to track her, and I came here.”

“Does Blake know you’re tracking her?”Quinn asked.

“Yes.He doesn’t want the River Canyon pack to get their hands on her.”

Kyllian thought about the rogue bikers in the area.“We might be too late.”When Quinn grabbed his hand, he threaded their fingers, hoping to ground her.“The rogue bikers.”

Quinn inhaled deeply, her eyes widening.“But if it is them, how did they know where I am?”

“What rogue bikers?”Mercy asked.

“There are some bikers in town asking about Quinn.At least we assume it’s her because of the description they gave.”Kyllian squeezed her hand as he asked Mercy, “Who else knows Quinn’s location?”

“Just me, Jeremy, and his mate.When Blake came back, he made it clear if Quinn ever showed up, he’d take her down.”

“He could try, but I don’t want to be Alpha any more now than I did back then.”Quinn released Kyllian’s hand, and he missed the connection.He missed being around her these last seven days, but he vowed to keep his distance so she had time to decide whether or not she wanted him.“Let’s assume these bikers are from my old pack.Someone had to have told them where I am.Are you sure Jeremy’s mate didn’t tell anyone else where I am?Or maybe someone followed without you knowing?Even if Nikita made it all the way to New Mexico, these bikers have been hanging out in town for a few weeks.The timeline doesn’t fit.”

Trenton, who had been quiet up to that point, asked, “Why would Nikita run to New Mexico?”

Mercy shrugged.“We don’t know that’s where she’s headed.We only assumed so because she went south.”

“Is it possible Nikita found out where Tarryn’s family planned to go?Maybe she was following them instead,” Trenton offered.

“I don’t think so.Blake restricted Nikita to their home until after Tarryn’s family was gone.That doesn’t mean she isn’t out looking for them.They did have cell phones, and Tarryn could have contacted her before they left.”

Kyllian felt the first tinge of hope.“Have you tried tracing Nikita’s phone?”

Mercy shook her head.“She didn’t take it with her.”

“Do you know her number?I can have one of my people see if she and Tarryn swapped information.”

Mercy narrowed her eyes at Kyllian.“Blake destroyed her phone when he found it before realizing it could be useful.”
