Tall, Dark & Furious (Pyte/Sentinel 6) - Page 77

“I can’t eat food,” Trace said, biting back a disappointed sigh because that was one thing that he actually missed about being human. Not that he missed his father’s burnt stew or the stale bread that he’d served with it, but he wouldn’t have minded being able to try some of the food that his wife seemed so fond of.

“What are you talking about? Pytes can eat,” Nathan said, frowning as he gestured towards the pizza that he’d been curious about since the first time the Sentinel brought it home. Trace glanced at the shifter for confirmation only to find Kale still watching him, frowning as though he couldn’t quite seem to figure something out.

“Are you sure?” Trace asked, reaching for a slice of pizza, admittedly curious to see what the big deal was.

“Positive.”

“I’m going to kill you,” Samantha calmly explained with a nod as she watched Trace stumble out of the bathroom and drop face down on the bed with a groan.

“You’re really going to blame me for this?” Nathan asked with a pitying shake of his head and a sigh.

“No, I’m going to kill you for this,” Samantha said, narrowing her eyes on her brother.

“Hey, no one forced him to eat all that ice cream. I was just as surprised as you were,” Nathan said, holding his hands up in surrender.

“You told him that the ice cream would make his stomach feel better!”

“And I honestly thought that it would help,” Nathan said, dropping his hands with another sigh.

“You are lying your ass off, Nathan Lukas,” Samantha bit out with a glare only to end up worrying her bottom lip and glance over her shoulder when Trace made another one of those disturbing sounds that was really starting to worry her.

“He’ll be fine,” Nathan said, waving it off, but something, mostly the fact that Trace was back to mumbling, “Please kill me,” had her wondering if he would be.

“Look, he’s able to talk again,” Nathan said, shrugging it off.

“He’s begging for death, you asshole!” Samantha snapped, rubbing her temples as she glanced from Trace, who really didn’t look so good, back to Nathan and-

“Ow! What the hell was that for?” he demanded, rubbing his arm while she stood there, seriously tempted to slap him again.

“I saw that smile!”

“What? I’m just happy he’s okay,” Nathan said, trying to appear innocent and failing miserably.

Nodding, Samantha said, “I’m going to kill you.”

“Oh, come on! It’s not like he didn’t have this coming!”

Nathan said, gesturing towards Trace whose eyes had gone red and were now focused on her brother.

“What the hell did he do to you?” Samantha demanded even as she decided that it would probably be a good idea to finish this conversation in the hallway where Trace wouldn’t be tempted to rip her brother’s throat out. With that in mind, she shoved the large bastard out of the room before quietly closing the door behind her and-

Sighed.

Just freaking sighed when she suddenly found herself thrown over her brother’s shoulder and heading towards the stairs. “Seriously? This again?”

“We need to get out of here,” Nathan said as he quickly made his way downstairs and headed for the front door.

“I made a promise, Nathan,” she said, wondering why they were even having this conversation again.

“I don’t fucking care,” he said, heading to the door and-

“What the hell did you do to me?” Kale demanded as she suddenly found herself placed on her feet in time to see the large shifter’s legs give out and drop him to the floor with a pained groan.

“Learned my lesson the first time,” Nathan said as he calmly walked over to the man that had been watching her every move since she’d been allowed to leave her room and searched his pockets until he found his keys.

“She’s staying,” Kale mumbled weakly only to release another pained groan as he rolled over onto his side.
