Quarantined With the Lumberjack - Page 20

Chapter Nine

Luna did it.

She finished her paper.

Somehow, between sex and snuggling and working out in the lumberjack’s in-home gym, she finished her thesis.

The best part?

It was good.

At least, she thought it was.

She was putting the finishing touches on it when he came home from work one day. He walked inside and came up behind her. Then he slid his big hands around her and pulled her back against him. When he kissed the side of her neck, she meowed like a damn cat. She couldn’t control herself.

It was just this crazy effect he seemed to have on her, and she didn’t know why or how.

“I missed you today,” he murmured.

“I missed you, too.”

“How did writing go?”

“I finished it,” she said, and she suddenly felt so damn proud saying that out loud that she almost wanted to cry.

“You finished?” He sounded happy for her, and it was the first time Luna could remember that someone actually sounded like they really cared about her and her work.

“It’s only the first draft,” she said carefully. “It still needs to be polished, and I still have to defend it.”

“Still,” he said proudly. “The biggest chunk of work is done. You finished your research. Damn, baby. How should we celebrate?”

“Hmmm,” she said, looking him up and down. “I wonder…”

He laughed and pulled her off of the stool and into his arms. He ran his hands through her hair and kissed her over and over again.

“So fucking proud of you,” he said. Then he lifted her up, carried her to the bedroom, and tossed her on the bed.

He was on her in an instant: growling and biting at her neck. He tugged her clothes off effortlessly and soon she was naked beneath him.

“Is this how we celebrate?” She laughed. “I love it. I should write papers more often.”

“Baby, we can celebrate like this if you do a good workout or make a great meal or even if you just feel happy with your life in general,” he said. “I’ll celebrate with you any damn time you want.”

“Really?”

“Promise,” he said, and he kissed her again.

He stripped out of his own clothes and tossed them aside. They landed on the floor, probably beside hers, and then he was over her. Just like the first time they were together, she looked up at him and grinned. She was happy with him. Thrilled. He made her feel like she was on top of the world, and even though they’d been stuck together for almost two weeks, she wasn’t tired of him at all yet.

Then, suddenly, all at once, it hit her that their time together was almost over.

Once the stores opened up, and the roads were open again, and they were free to travel…

What then?

Was she really ready to walk away from him?

Was she really ready to walk away from what they’d been experiencing?
