Fake Girlfriend - Page 20

When everything has settled, Sara leads me back to our room. I let her, considering how exhausted I am. Now that we’ve had sex, it’s like the physical barrier between us has been broken.

I hold her in my arms and she cuddles up to me. I want to tell her, but for now, we should just enjoy each other and sleep.

W hen I open my eyes in the morning, I feel content and safe. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this good waking up before. When my eyes focus, I see why.

Lucille is holding me in her arms,

sleeping softly. My heart is practically bursting at the seams.

I carefully extract myself from the bed and get dressed. I don’t want to wake Lucille before I have to. When I’m ready, I head to where the boys are sleeping.

When I open the door, they’re both still fast asleep. I let out a breath of relief. I was worried that they would be tossing and turning all night. They didn’t come to our room to wake us up at all, so I guess all of the excitement must have tired them out.

I sit on Lucas’s bed. I’m worried that he’s had nightmares all night, but he looks peaceful. I put a hand on his shoulder and he starts to stir.

“Good morning,” I tell him with a smile. “How did you sleep?”

He groggily sits up. “Good morning,” he says with a yawn. “I dreamed that we got a cat.”

“A cat? Was it a friendly cat?” I ask, worried that the cat was really a tiger trying to eat him.

He nods. “His name was Muffins.”

Muffins. There’s nothing too scary about that.

I kiss his forehead. “Start getting ready. I’ll wake your brother.”

I go over to the Liam’s bed and wake him up as well.

“Wakey wakey,” I say.

He yawns and gets up. “Good morning,” he tells me.

“Did you have an accident, bud? Need new pants?” I ask, worried that we may have a little clean-up we need to get to.

He thinks and feels around his lap.

“Nope!” He says happily. “All dry!”

I smile and kiss his forehead. I was worried that coming here would stress them out too much, but they’re taking it pretty well.

“Great. Get dressed. We’re going to make breakfast.”

As they get ready, my mind wanders back to the events of last night. Even in death, it seems like Lucille’s father is still managing to upset her.

It makes me angry to think about. She hasn’t done anything wrong. She’s a sweet, kind person.

The fact that he’s only leaving her anything if she continues the family line is ridiculous. This isn’t the dark ages. How is something like that even legal?

I guess that I should just be happy I can help her. Once she gets the money, she can be done with all of this nonsense. She can move on with her life.

I shake the thoughts out of my head. No point in being spiteful, I guess. Once we get Adelaide on our side, we can forget about all of the family drama that came with this.

I get the boys ready for the day and head down to the kitchen. Lucille’s cousin Marcella is already sitting at the table holding a cup of black coffee in her hands.
