Loved by the Hitman (Men of Ruthless Corp) - Page 18

Then again, what the fuck did I know?

He could have his own woman and children stashed away in a warehouse somewhere. Still, I wasn't ready to share Audrey. Especially with my boss.

“Tell me what’s happening now.”

He laid out the details of the bank robbery, ending with the fact the man I was hunting had taken a hostage and gone on the run.

Fucking hell. I would have to figure out a way to handle this motherfucker and Audrey at the same time.

“I’ll take care of it,” I murmured.

Rogue grunted but didn't say anything else before he hung up.

Goodbye to you, too, asshole.

I turned back to my computer and looked up the bank where the robbery was happening. There were plenty of street cams and businesses with security feeds for me to hack into. I did a facial recognition scan, and it wasn’t long before it dinged, and I caught sight of Jack. He and an accomplice were dragging a woman out to a van at gunpoint. From there, I followed them out into the open road. I nearly lost them when they played a shell game with a bunch of other matching vehicles. However, I was damn good at my job, and they couldn't shake me. At one point, the van pulled to the side of the road, and the passenger door opened right before the accomplice went tumbling out headfirst. Then the van took off again, and I stayed on its six, not giving the man left behind more than a passing thought. My gut told me he was dead.

Eventually, the van had traveled down enough backroads that I had to switch to satellite feed—yeah, Ruthless Corp had all the coolest toys.

When the van finally squealed into a parking lot behind a large warehouse, I kept one eye on the satellite image of him while I searched the address. It didn't take me long to find the schematics for the building. Jack had dragged the woman inside, and I furrowed my brow as I considered my options. I wasn’t close enough to help her but leaving her to the mercy of that fuck wasn’t a choice either.

Another vehicle suddenly rolled to a stop a ways down the road.

I was shocked when I realized I recognized the SUV.

Huntley.

My former teammate lived in the town where the robbery had taken place, and pieces of conversations from over the last year and a half began to replay in my mind. Something about a bank teller. He’d been just cagey enough for me to suspect there was more to his relationship with her than he was letting on.

Did that asshole have Huntley’s woman?

An idea began to form in my head. This might just work.

I picked up my phone and chose another encoded number before I hit send.

“Can this wait?” Huntley barked in lieu of a greeting.

“I think you’re going to want to hear what I have to say before you go into that warehouse with guns blazing,” I drawled.

There was a moment of tense silence, so I quickly made my point.

“This is a you help me, I’ll help you kind of call.”

“Details,” he demanded impatiently.

Audrey

Both times Merrick and I had sex, I’d wound up passing out afterward. Mind-blowing orgasms were apparently better than sleep meds, at least for me. But not for my kidnapping hottie since he hadn’t stayed in bed with me while I was sleeping once again. Grumbling to myself, I crawled off the mattress and snagged one of his white, button-down shirts from the closet. Striving to look as tempting as possible, I only slid a couple of the buttons into place and didn’t bother with panties.

After a pit stop to the bathroom, I padded out of the bedroom in search of the man who’d screwed me into a coma. I was filled with a burning need to make him regret leaving me alone in his bed. Although I hadn’t given him nearly as much grief over kidnapping me as I should have, I wasn’t a pushover. It was about time Merrick learned that about me, and teaching him by using my newfound feminine wiles sounded like a whole lot of fun.

As I moved through his lair, I was still in awe of the comfortable home he’d built inside of what looked like a derelict building from the outside. He’d waved off my admiration earlier with an off-hand comment about how that was his goal with the warehouse, but his modesty didn’t lessen the impact of my surroundings. I’d grown up in the lap of luxury but found myself impressed anyway.

I paused a few times to appreciate Merrick’s choice in artwork and was staring up at what I was almost certain was an original Jackson Pollock painting worth millions when the deep murmur of his voice drifted down the hallway. I headed in that direction but paused as I neared his office. Merrick had said the room was off-limits for my exploration of the place, but the door wasn’t closed all the way, and he was in there, so I figured the rule didn’t apply under these circumstances.
