That is until Lakyn grunts and starts to slide to his knees.
He reaches over and puts a hand gently on my arm. I look up into his stoic green eyes and I can see it.
The me that would have done anything to get Penn Harris to notice him.
The me that would do anything to keep him.
The me that I didn’t know even existed anymore.
“Enough,” he says softly, prying my hand away from Lakyn’s throat. “That’s enough.”
I relent.
I ease my grip on Lakyn’s throat just enough for him to suck in a deep breath of air and I stand upright again.
Ichabod leans down and puts his hands on Lakyn’s shoulder, helping him get to his feet, then lets him lean his body against his.
It’s quiet now except for the heaving breaths that bastard is taking to fill his lungs in again.
Ichabod looks at me again, holds my gaze for a moment, then nods.
I take a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh as I nod toward the door.
I’m ready to let them go now.
With as much as I know he deserves to die, I can’t do it in front this broken kid.
I turn my back to them ready to walk way and go back into my home.
And that’s when we hear a scream coming from the third floor.
Eighteen
Two, Not One
Penn
It’s been hours since those three left.
/> Gray’s sitting on the couch with an arm around me, and I’m using a rag to wipe away the blood. It’s hard to do with Aiden still attached to me, but she’s turned as much as she can be to allow me to do what I can.
“Learned your lesson, I hope,” I say to him curtly as I hand the rag to Aiden and sit back.
“Penn—”
“Yeah, I know,” I say, cutting him off. “Anyway, do you want Doc to come over and take a look at your mouth?”
Gray looks at me with sad eyes and shakes his head.
I’m not entirely sure what he expects right now, though.
He lost his mind after Aiden almost died in her last fight and decided the only way to keep her safe was to put us together. He said it was best for all of us to be together this way, but I don’t know.
I still think it’s pretty fucked.
I purse my lips and look at Aiden, who nods, before I turn my attention back to him.
“Can I tell you something?”
