Breaking Mr. Cane (Cane 2) - Page 68

He shuddered, gripping the back of my head with one hand and my shoulder with the other, like he couldn’t hold on tight enough while he unleashed his orgasm.

“Oh, fuck,” he groaned when he was empty.

He pulled his sated cock out of my mouth and I licked my lips. Bringing a hand down, he pressed his thumb on my bottom lip, a lazy smile sweeping over his mouth. “Hungry?” he asked. “For food, I mean.”

I laughed softly. “Yes.”

“Okay. I’ll grab your clothes and order something. Or we can cook? My mother doesn’t let me live with an empty fridge anymore.” He laughed, eyes softening as he stepped back. Aw. He was adorable when he spoke about his mother.

“Let’s cook,” I insisted.

“Okay, but I’m warning you now, if it’s a burnt mess, don’t be mad at me. I’m not the greatest in the kitchen. I hire people for that shit.”

I laughed. “Well, that’s okay. We’ll see what we can whip up and you can help me with the small stuff. Good thing I watched my mom cook all those dinners she made when you used to come over.”

“Ah, yeah.” He went to the closet, taking out a pair of sweatpants. “Miss those dinners.”

I sat on the edge of the bed, fiddling with my cuticle. “Yeah. Me too.”

Cane walked to the door. “I’ll go get your clothes. We’ll eat then play a board game or something. How does that sound?”

“Like my kind of night.” With a small smile, I watched him go, but with every step he took, my smile fell.

It was the little things—the memories we shared—that were going to be the hardest to get over, especially the ones that involved Mom and Dad.

This was hard for him—having to live a life without them and pretend nothing was wrong. Hell, it was hard for me to still have them and him while they were all at odds.

I was stuck in the middle of it, and even though my parents didn’t know about what Cane and I had now, it still sucked to see the look on their faces while they hoped I was making better decisions.

Chapter Thirty-One

CANE

Kandy didn’t go home that night, and even though I had to wake up at six the next morning to prepare for a presentation, I was glad she’d stayed. I’d lost so much precious time with this girl. I was certain her parents were going to wonder where she was, so when she got comfortable in my bed after eating an amazing pasta dish, I told her to text her mother to let her know she was staying at Frankie’s, at least. It was a lie, but the truth would have stirred shit up again and that was the last thing I wanted for her.

She seemed happy being with me, but I still noticed this look in her eyes, as if there was a lot more wrong than what she’d told me when she first arrived. I couldn’t figure it out. She was happy, yes, but there was this swirl of sadness that couldn’t be missed. I’d catch it during her quiet moments, like she was thinking about something that was breaking her heart. I didn’t push. Just hoped she’d tell me when she was ready.

A little after midnight, she lounged on the bed with me, scrolling through her phone while I worked on my laptop. She twisted onto her stomach, yawning as she shut the screen off. “You seriously don’t sleep, huh?” she mumbled, turning sideways and resting her hands under her cheeks. Her legs brushed against mine.

“Too much work to do,” I answered, focused on the screen.

“You really should start letting loose, Cane. Working so hard is going to burn you out one day, don’t you think?”

“I’ve been working hard all my life.” My head turned a fraction, our eyes connecting. “It’s nothing new to me. If I don’t work hard, I don’t see results. That goes for anything in life, honestly.”

“Hmm…I guess you have a point. But still…you hardly take a vacation or give yourself time to relax. The least you can do is sleep.”

I smirked as she brought two fingers up and walked them across the keyboard. She didn’t press the letters, just lightly tapped over them with the pads of her fingers.

“Sure you aren’t saying all this just to get my attention?”

She grinned and dropped her hand. “Maybe you should get rid of it for the night.”

“I have a presentation in the morning. I’ll have to be updated on all of my information…” My words were meaningless. Yes, the meeting was important, but having her seduce me was much more pleasurable.

Kandy sat up and closed the lid of my laptop, then grabbed my wrist, tugging until I was on top of her.

“I’ll let you get back to work, right after you take care of me. Sound fair?” she breathed on my mouth.
