Hold On to Me (Return to Haven 3) - Page 70

Jade stared at Livie as well, because she’d been about to say something and then stopped. She glanced at Melanie, who had wide eyes and a big smile.

“Tell me it’s what I’m thinking,” Melanie said and wiggled Knox in her arms.

Livie nodded, but looked down at Piper. “There’s so much going on right now, and with everything still so new, we’re just taking it day by day before, well . . .”

It was all Jade could do not to explode and scream and wrap both arms around her friend.

So she pulled back and nodded, but couldn’t prevent the smile from overtaking her. “I understand. You guys are smart and so lucky.”

Livie nodded. “We definitely are.”

“Well, this is all so exciting,” Melanie stated. “And there’s never a wrong time to discuss . . . um, airport renovations.”

“I’m going to be a pilot when I grow up,” Piper said, then took off with her arms spread wide as she mimicked a plane. She raced through the living room and down the hall.

“How far along are you?” Jade whispered. “I assume Jax knows?”

Livie nodded and glanced toward the hall, then back to her friends. “I’m nine weeks and I just told him a few days ago. But with Melanie delivering and the shower, I didn’t want to ruin her moment.”

“This definitely does not ruin anything,” Melanie countered. “Happy news always comes at just the right time.”

Livie laughed and shook her head. “When I told him, he was so happy. Then he wanted to know if he was getting another plane. Always the smart-ass, but I love him.”

Jade couldn’t be happier for her friends. When Livie had proposed to Jax, she’d bought him a plane. It was no wonder the man wondered what his next gift would be.

Her phone vibrated again just as Piper came back down the hall, still in plane mode.

“I really need to be going,” she told her friends. “I’m so happy for both of you. Really. The move here has been the best decision we’ve ever made.”

“I agree,” Melanie said.

Livie wrapped one arm around Jade’s shoulders and her other arm around Melanie’s. “I love you guys. I don’t know how I could do all this without you.”

“Well, you won’t have to find out, because we’re not going anywhere,” Jade said as she leaned her head against Livie.

Livie shifted back and dropped her arms. “Which reminds me, Jax and I came up with a price if you’re still interested in the house.”

Jade nodded. “I am.”

“Great. How about I swing by later and we talk?”

Considering she wouldn’t be home later, that would be a problem, but she couldn’t exactly tell Livie that.

“I need to run a few errands,” Jade replied. “Let me call you when I get home. That work?”

“Sure thing.”

Jade said her goodbyes and even snagged a hug and a kiss from the minipilot before she headed out. Not until she was safely in her car did she pull out her phone and check her messages. Both Nana and Cash had replied. Her mother was indeed planning a surprise visit and Cash said he had dinner for them.

Jade pushed aside the thought of her mother coming to town; maybe she’d outgrow the idea.

Instead, she focused on Cash and told him she was running by her house first and then she’d be right there. He’d made dinner for her even though he’d worked at the gym that morning and had gone to the airport to help lay the new flooring. Anyway they could cut corners and save money, they were doing it. So the guys all had been there during the baby shower.

Jade went straight to her house and gathered a few things. Just because he’d made dinner didn’t mean she couldn’t make dessert. She’d seen something on Mel’s blog the other day and had thought it sounded perfect for an evening out on the patio with a glass of wine.

Cash had been keeping her favorite stocked in his fridge because she’d been there every night. Their routine worked for them, and as the sun started sinking on the horizon, Jade couldn’t help but wonder if she did want more. Maybe Cash had been on to something when he’d mentioned a relationship. Maybe they could give it a try.

Nerves raced all through her as she put her wine and ingredients for dessert into her canvas shopping bag. What would he say if she confronted him and told him she wanted to go for it?
