Big Roomie - Page 9

The distraction is really starting to get to me. I find myself putting random items in my basket, just reaching for packages without even looking at them. I’m mostly watching Kain, as he leans over to look at items in the fancy deli section. His ass is perfection. Oh God, this is a terrible idea. Where are my friends? I need to come back to reality.

Kain walks back to me and I see he has a sticker stuck to his waist. It must have come off the counter he was leaning over. I can’t help but laugh when I see what the sticker says. He turns to me, looking suspicious.

“What?” he says.

“So you’re hot beef, huh?” I ask, pointing the label stuck to him. “Five pounds worth? That’s a big one.”

He still looks confused, but also intrigued. He knows I’m teasing him about something, but he’s looks unsure about what.”

“So I’ve been told,” he says with a wink.

I reach out to grab the sticker off his waist, but he moves quickly and I bump right into his chest. Again.

“Here you go again, getting handsy, just like on the plane. Do I need a whistle when I’m around you?”

I roll my eyes and laugh. When I try to reach for the sticker again. He presses against me this time and I gasp. He has me pinned against a display of pork rinds. I can’t move. My chest heaves against his. Those stormy gray eyes pierce me with their intensity. The warmth of his body seeps through my clothes. His hard muscles make it feel as though I’m wedged against a statue, and yet it’s the most comfortable, wonderful feeling.

His eyes widen as I run my fingers along his waist. To him the touch of my fingers must feel like an embrace. I have to admit, even though I know exactly where the sticker is, I let my fingers roam. He swallows hard. I’m startled when he presses his erection against me. Suddenly, I’m feeling very self-conscious. For a moment it seems as though we are the only two people on this planet. And now the fear of my friends finding us like this is terrifying.

I feel the sticker and rip it off his shirt. I show it to him and smirk.

He looks at it and laughs. He steps away for a moment, allowing me to escape the cage of his body. But I have to admit, being away from him is disappointing. His absence is lonely. I long to feel the heat of his body again. Telling by the look on his face, he feels the same.

Just as he opens his mouth to speak, Deb and Lillian come around the corner.

Damn it. They have terrible timing.

“Chips!” Deb says. I hurry to step away from Kain and I know I look guilty as hell. If my friends did notice, they don’t say anything. “Good idea. We should do a barbeque one of these nights. I saw a pit in the backyard.”

“I grill a mean steak,” Kain says. “That is, if I’m invited to your barbeque.” He looks pointedly at me. I figured we’d be off doing our own things and I would hardly see him. I was sure he would be too busy with work to spend much time at the house. The heat and tingle between my legs at the thought of spending time with him is instant. And concerning.

“Of course you’re invited,” Lillian says. “I don’t think any of us girls know how to grill.”

I clear my throat, afraid the lust I feel for Kain is written all over my face. I need to get away from him before everyone sees.

“I’ll go grab some vegetables to make a salad,” I say, and hurry away before it’s too late.

I grab all the veggies for the salad, my mind spinning as I try to remember what a salad even is. Kain has me spinning. I head over to the walk-in cooler for some beer. I could definitely use a drink right about now. When I’m inside, shivering from the cold fridge, browsing my options, I feel a streak of warmth behind me and turn. Coming face to face with Kain makes me almost drop the bottle of Moscato I’d picked up for dessert.

I’m too shocked to even speak as he places his large body in front of me, blocking my way. Unlike our little moment by the chips, this time he seems to be taking advantage of the fact that we’re alone and no one can see us. He presses his hips firmly against mine. I let out a gasp of surprise. Even more surprising is the slight moan of excitement that escapes my lips when I feel how hard he is.

He smiles at the sound and leans his face close to mine so that I can feel his warm cinnamon-scented breath against my lips. It would be so easy to lean in and kiss him. Every part of me wants to give into the temptation, but my shyness prevents me from doing such a thing.
