Blind Date (A Why Choose Romance) - Page 39

LEWIS ROLLINS

One minute I’m elated and the next I crashed.

The night we spent together was fucking magic up until around the time we all crashed out. One minute there were orgasms every way you turned in that tiny bedroom of hers, and the next minute, well, I guess I fell asleep.

Hey, don’t judge me. I was shattered. I’d come twice.

But it was a tiny bed, and it wasn’t my own, so I woke up a while later aware that I hadn’t had a full night’s sleep but also fully aware that I wasn’t going to get a solid seven hours there no matter what.

It was morning already, light out but still early enough for most people to catch more zzzzs.

I got up and left the small bedroom.

The next room was a tiny all-in-one lounge with a kitchen area. I went over to investigate the contents of the fridge. I wasn’t hungry, just curious. I found an open carton of orange juice and decided to help myself.

While searching for a glass, I noticed a cellphone on the countertop. It must have been Kayla’s.

We came in and immediately rolled into the bedroom to start fucking. But there had been a brief interlude when we went to the kitchen to rehydrate and Kayla disappeared to the bathroom and showered herself down.

Jake and I offered to join her or at least shower afterward to make sure we smelled good, but she adamantly insisted we didn’t shower: she liked the way we smelled.

Anyways, I guess when we had drinks, Kayla must have checked her cell and left it there then.

I never intended to spy on the contents of the woman’s phone, in my defense, and I don’t know why I picked it up at all. It was late or early, depending on how you considered the hour. I was tired. There was no excuse.

When I turned it over, I noticed a load of unread messages.

Okay. None of my business.

But I couldn’t help noticing the names of her contacts.

Tyler Argonauts.

And Ethan Argonauts.

The obvious explanation was not that she knew a set of brothers with the last name of Argonauts. The more likely explanation was she had our teammates’ contact numbers. The coincidence was impossible to ignore.

The number of missed calls and messages told me the guys wanted to get hold of her, and they were persistent. They didn’t care about how many times they tried to contact her.

Now that was curious.

But the real giveaway was the snippets of the messages displayed in the preview window.

The most obvious conclusion I had to jump to was that Kayla had something going on with both of those dudes. And now with Jake and me. Was she going for the whole team? Good luck with that.

I didn’t know what to make of it.

I’d seen those dudes every day since the night when we all first saw Kay at The Ugly Duckling, and they hadn’t mentioned her. But their names were on her phone. They were messaging her. It was all off.

My gut ached like it had been kicked. Something told me that Kayla was at least interested in them as well. I put the phone down, realizing I was a piece of shit snoop. I had only the flimsiest of excuses even to look that far. But I couldn’t erase from my memory what I had seen.

She just didn’t seem the groupie type.

I stood stone-statue still trying to process what I suspected.

It was strange. I had no problem sharing girls with Jake like it was in our DNA.

Maybe I was a fucking freak, but I actually liked it. It was a big fucking turn-on for me when we worked together to get a girl so riled up she didn’t know whose name to scream.

There had been times when we’d both fucked and dated the same girl, and it had never seemed strange. But, admittedly, it had also never been anything serious.

I had never considered sharing a girl in that way with any other guy. The possibility simply never registered in my brain. But suddenly, it forced its way in to be considered. If I was happy to share a woman with my blood brother, why not share her with my other brothers? Share her with a bigger group of dudes who made up my chosen family?

It seemed as if it should be no big deal.

After one afternoon and one night with Kayla, it sort of made sense to me that some women should have more than one boyfriend or lover. She had a huge personality and a massive sexual appetite. I could see how it might be fine even if there were four guys in her life and not two.

But I also wondered what she wanted.

Was she working her way through the team with no interest in seeing any of us again? In which case, I didn’t need to worry about Ethan and Ty.
