The Wanted Short Stories (Wanted 5.5) - Page 60

“Hold on, Princess. I’m about to—”

Then, there was a knock on the door. Josh and I stopped moving and stayed perfectly still.

“Josh? Heather? I brought y’all lunch.”

Josh’s mouth dropped open in shock as we heard Mindy, our neighbor, on the other side of the door. I shook my head quickly and wanted to cry.

I shot Josh a dirty look and mouthed, Are you kidding me?

He dropped my legs and jumped off the bed. “I forgot that Dad said he told Mindy where we are staying when she asked where we were.”

He started getting dressed as I lay cuffed to the bed. I had never been so mad in my entire life.

What in the hell is that bitch doing here? And why in the hell is he getting dressed?

“What are you doing?” I whispered.

He looked at me like I was crazy. “Getting dressed!”

“Why?” I asked through clenched teeth.

He stopped and looked at me funny.

All those insecurities came flooding back. Does he want to see her? He waves to her every time he runs by her house. Does she still have a thing for him? Is he attracted to her?

She knocked again. “Josh? Heather?”

He looked at the door and then at me.

“Get me out of these,” I said as I jerked on the cuffs.

He quickly walked over and unclasped my hands. I got up and pushed him out of the way. I reached for my robe and stormed off to the bathroom. I leaned against the door as I heard Josh answer the door.

“Hey there, Mindy! Sorry. I was sitting outside, and Heather is in the shower.”

“My, my, Josh. You must be working out.”

Her voice grew louder, so I knew she must have walked into the room. I could practically feel the steam coming from my ears.

“Let me grab a shirt.”

My mouth dropped open. He opened the door without a shirt on?

I looked around the bathroom and found a pair of my jeans and a T-shirt. I slipped them both on and then threw my hair up into a ponytail. I opened the bathroom door quickly.

Mindy jumped. “Oh my! Heather, you gave me a fright.”

I just glared at her. I slowly turned my head and glared at Josh.

“Your father told me you two were taking a break for a few days, so I thought I would make you a home-cooked lunch for today. You could enjoy it out on the patio.”

“That was really kind of you, Mindy,” Josh said.

I snapped my head over and stared at him. My heart dropped, and I wanted to cry.

Who brings lunch over to a hotel, for Christ’s sake?

I glanced back at Mindy. I barely smiled at her as I walked over and slipped on my flip-flops. Josh gave me a questioning look as he watched me.
