Silence. Followed by some movement and a door quietly closing. “Better? What in the world would be better for you than mind blowing sex?”
“First. I need a second opinion from your opinion so say one of our other best friends names. First one that comes to your mind.”
“Um . . . Lauren?”
“Okay, hold on!”
I clicked over and hit Lauren’s number.
It sounded as if Lauren answered and then dropped her phone. “Hello! Meg? Is everything okay?”
“Yes! Sorry Lauren to call so late. Hold on, let me get Grace back on the line.”
I brought Grace back on and cleared my throat. “Are you both there?”
Grace and Lauren both said yes at the same time.
“Meg, what’s going on?” Lauren asked.
I drew in a deep breath and slowly blew it out. “Okay, so I had the most amazing day of my life today.”
“Hot sex?” Lauren asked as I rolled my eyes.
“No! Damn it, y’all. My life is not only about sex.”
There was a moment of silence before Grace and Lauren both started laughing.
“Says the girl who sucked her cucumber like a boss,” Lauren said with another chuckle.
I took in a deep breath and counted to five. “Do you want to hear my news or not?”
“Yes! Of course we do, sweets. Sorry. Lauren, behave for Christ’s sake.”
“Me? Tell me you didn’t think sex first?”
Grace laughed. “Oh, no I did.”
“Ugh! Stop you two!”
“Sorry, Meg. You had the best day of your life. Why?” Lauren asked.
“Okay, so I was pissed at Grayson and then he showed up and said he wanted to spend the day together but as friends only. We went ice skating and then he brought me up to his moms and we ate lunch and—”
“What?” Lauren shouted.
“Hold the fucking phone! You met Ashley?” Grace shouted into the phone as I quickly started getting undressed for my shower. Glancing around, I saw Grayson’s robe and slipped it on as I heard a door open and close through the phone.
“Noah! Wake up! Grayson took Meg to meet Aunt Ashley.”
Noah mumbled something as I tip toed back out to Grayson’s living room to check on him. He was out cold.
Turning, I headed back into the bathroom and shut the door. “No, I’m delirious from being pregnant,” Grace said as I heard a door shut again.
“Can we move on from meeting Gray’s mom?”
“No!” Grace said. “Meg, that is like huge. A guy like Gray doesn’t bring home just any girl.”
“Oh my glitter! This is so romantic. You met his mom!” Lauren said as she sighed dramatically into the phone. At this rate I’m thinking I would have been better with the sleep-deprived new mother.
