Luck Of The Devil (Devil's Riders 6) - Page 24

“It’s okay, Angel. It’s going to be okay.”

He pulled me to my feet. I stood there, looking down until he tipped my chin up. He smiled at me so sweetly, like he was in awe of me. Like he couldn’t believe I was real. I couldn’t fight it when he kissed me. I wanted him to. I wanted him to kiss me more than I would have thought possible.

Lucky’s hands roamed over my back as his tongue massaged mine teasingly. He deepened the kiss and his hands grew bolder, molding my hips and my ass so that I pressed against his hardness. And lord, Lucky was hard.

I sighed as he slid one hand up to gently cup my breast. He tweaked the nipple and I moaned. He dipped his hips down and brought them upwards, lifting one of my thighs and holding me open.

The feeling of his rock hard shaft pressing insistently between my legs snapped me out of the spell.

“Lucky…”

I heard the school bus outside and froze. I glanced at the clock. I almost screamed when I saw what time it was.

“It’s almost three! You need to get out of here.”

“Why?”

“Please… please don’t argue with me, Lucky.”

“Fine. I’ll go. But I have conditions.”

“Please, Lucky!”

“One, you go out with me tomorrow night. A real date.”

I stared at him.

“What?”

“A date. You and me.”

“I work tomorrow.”

“And two, you never go back to that shit hole again.”

“I can’t promise that, Lucky!”

I was certain I heard Jacey’s footsteps in the hall. He crossed his arms. I almost screamed in frustration.

“You have to go!”

“Well?”

“Fine!” I shouted, practically shoving him out the door. He scooped up his boots and grinned as I thrust his jacket into his arms and shoved him out the door in his socks. He gave me a scorching look right before I shut the door.

“See you tomorrow, Angel.”

I slammed the door in his face and slumped against it. Then I ran for my bedroom and threw some clothes on. I rinsed my face and stared at myself in the mirror. Did I look like I’d just been kissed? Yes, I did. But I hoped Jacey would be too innocent to know that. I pulled my hair back in a ponytail just as Jacey’s keys jingled in the door.

I wondered idly if she’d passed Lucky on the stairs.

I threw myself on the couch and tried to act casual. I grabbed the paperback I was currently reading off the side table and turned it right side up. Meanwhile my heart was thudding in my chest.

“Mom.” Jacey stood in the doorway looking at me, a strange worried look on her face. “There’s something weird…”

I prayed she wasn’t about to tell me about a shoeless hunk wandering the hallways of our building.

“What is it? Is something wrong?”

“No.” She tilted her head to the side. “Well, not exactly.”

“What is it, hon?”

She looked at me, and then made a face.

“Well… There’s… there’s a boot on your car.”

I ran to the window in shock. There were bikers parked out front. I squinted, seeing that my car did indeed have a boot on it. I wasn’t parked illegally though…

My phone beeped and I ran for my purse to fish it out. I stared at it in shock and anger.

It was Lucky.

Just in case you were thinking about breaking your promise.

I typed furiously.

Did you put a boot on my car?

Yes. Well, one of my buddies who works for the transportation department did it.

What if I need to go somewhere, Lucky? This is insane!

Like where? You don’t have a job anymore. I can take you out if you need something.

I sighed, closing my eyes.

Like, the hospital or something!

The phone rang immediately and I ran into my bedroom, closing the door.

“What?”

“Are you hurt?”

A voice growled at me from the phone. He sounded upset. I didn’t much care at the moment. I was upset!

“No.”

“You said you had to go to the hospital.”

“No. I said ‘what if’ I had to go to the hospital!”

Silence.

“Are you sure you’re alright?”

“Yes!”

“Well, let me know if you need anything. Or tell the guys.”

“Are they watching me, Lucky?”

“No. They are keeping you safe.”

I slumped down to sit on the edge of my bed.

“Lucky…”

“Have a good night, Angel.”

I hung up and stared into nothing. The door slowly opened. Jacey stood there, looking worried.

“Is everything okay, Mom?”

I opened my arms and she ran into them. I kissed her sweet head and squeezed her tight.

“Everything is fine.”

She giggled as I tickled her ribs lightly. Just a little. I didn’t want to make her get out of breath.

“What’s with all the food?”

“We are having a feast.”

“A feast?”

“We’re going to stay up late eating and watching TV. After you’ve done your homework of course.”

“Late? You aren’t going out?”

The hope in her voice tore at me. She sounded overjoyed. Relieved. There it was, impossible to ignore. I was missing too much, even though I did my best not to.
