Savage Love (Savage Island 2) - Page 45

When we’re alone again, we keep going. We won’t stop. No matter what we face, no matter what blocks us, we’re determined now. We didn’t make it this far to turn back now. We can’t fucking turn back.

“When we come out to the main floor, his office is placed behind a desk,” I tell Cy. “The desk should have his secretary, and beyond that is his office. If he isn’t there, we’ll have to form a plan B.”

Cy nods, and it feels as if the two of us are on a special recon or something. And maybe we are. Maybe we fucking are. We’re here to seek justice for what went down. For what happened to us. Just as we reach the landing, the door swings open, and two armed men face us.

“Put the weapons down,” one says. Ha. As if it’s going to be that easy. Cy looks at me and I look at him. He gives me an almost imperceptible nod, before I fall to the floor. Distracting. The guards look down at me in confusion, and Cy moves so quickly I hardly notice what he’s doing. One of the guards attacks Cy, who quickly ducks a blow and comes back with a sharp elbow to the man’s shoulder. He falls to the ground as the second guy screams at me and I feel my head yanked back by the hair, but it only lasts a second. I look up and see Cy’s got the guy by the throat, lifting him straight up in the air.

“I’m the only fucking bastard that pulls her hair,” he growls, I can see it in his eyes, the desire to kill this man.

“Bind him,” I whisper. “Don’t kill him, Cy,” I say softly. The guard’s eyes go wide when he knows I’m begging for his life.

“It isn’t for you, you bastard,” I say, shaking my head. “But for him.”

Cy lifts his gun and bashes the side of his head with the butt of it. The guard slumps over, knocked out. In one swift move, Cy uses the guard’s own cuffs on him.

“You’re the only one who pulls my hair, hmm?” I say with a laugh. God, I love this beast of a man.

When we finally get to the fourth floor, it’s eerily quiet. I look in confusion at Cy, and he shakes his head at me, a finger to his lips. Don’t question. Just move.

He opens the door and looks into the vacant hall, then beckons me to come. We enter, and at any moment I’m expecting someone else to come and attack us, to stop us, or something.

But nothing.

No one’s here.

Will Morose be?

It finally dawns on me.

Does he want us to come to him?

Cy beckons for me to come with him, and I follow. As I walk behind him, my heart flutters a little. He’s doing what he knows. He’s the one in charge. He was when he was on the island, and he was in the Navy. He doesn’t think I’m incapable of handling this, but on instinct commands the situation.

Just like he always has. Just like he always will. And even when it annoys me, don’t I love that about him?

We open the door to the office, and a young blonde woman sits behind the desk on her phone. She startles when we enter and drops it. There must be something wild and dangerous looking about us. She quickly jumps to her feet, her eyes wide and fearful.

“May I help you?”

Cy points his gun at her. “You do not call security,” he orders. Pointing the gun to the floor, he barks out a command. “Kneel.”

Her eyes narrow, and this time I make my move. I take her by the shoulders and shove her to the ground. She obeys, her eyes flitting from me to him as if in shock.

“I know you,” she whispers. “I know who you are.”

“Do you?” he asks, tossing me a roll of packing tape. “Bind her, Harper.”

As I do what he says, he questions her. “And what part in all this did you have?”

The way she looks away tells us she’s no innocent. She played a part in this, too. How many did? How many did he pay to orchestrate the injustice against us?

As I do what he says, but I’m not gentle about it. This girl was complicit in all of this, too. Fucking hell.

When she’s secured, thick tape on her mouth to keep her from screaming, we move toward the office. I lean in and whisper in his ear. “I’m the only girl you order on her knees.”

He grins, pulls me to him, and kisses me hard.

“I love you,” he whispers.

I still expect someone to come running. To come defend Morose. Why isn’t this place more heavily guarded? But no one comes. And when Cy goes to turn the office doorknob, it opens easily.
