He's All In - Page 18

I put my clothes on and put my shirt back on when I hear the water come on before he steps out of the bathroom. I prop myself up on my elbows as he shuts my bedroom door again.

“Did you touch yourself?” I ask.

“Yeah.” He slips back into the bed with me. I roll to my side to make sure we have enough room. Berkley is a big man.

“I could have done that for you.”

“Go to sleep, sweetness.” I smile burying my face in his neck.

“Parents get home around six,” I inform him as my eyes grow heavy. He pulls me in closer to him, and I throw my leg over him. Everything in the world is right with him in my bed.

“Then I’ll stay until five.” I kiss his neck, loving the sound of that as sleep takes me.Chapter ThirteenBerkleyPeeling myself away from Chandler’s body is not easy. She’s warm. She’s soft. She smells like the perfect mixture of sleep and sex. But her parents are going to be home soon, and I don’t want her to get in trouble. I’m a lucky fuck and I shouldn’t take advantage of it. I slide out of the bed as quietly as possible, grab my clothes, and tiptoe down the stairs. In the dark hallway between her family room and the kitchen, I get dressed.

The sky is still dark when I step outside. I give one last lingering look to the house and head off to my car, which I parked down the street. Halfway there a voice calls out, “Berk?”

I nearly fall on my face in my surprise. My jaw locks down as Davis comes jogging into view. His T-shirt is tucked into the back of his shorts, and steam is rising from the top of his head. He went on a run this early in the morning?

“What the hell are you doing here?” he asks, swiping a hand across his sweaty forehead.

The back of my own neck starts to feel damp. I clamp a hand back there and summon up an excuse. “Thought I forgot something here the other day.”

“Oh?” His eyes widen in innocent surprise, and my gut churns with guilt.

I spent the night in his girl’s bed, holding her in my arms, touching her pussy. I did all of this knowing that Davis has a thing for her. Even though Chandler doesn’t have the same feelings for Davis, he isn’t aware. And here he is feeling like shit, not sleeping, getting up before dawn to run or not even going to sleep at night. I have to tell him.

“Look, I—"

He throws an arm around my shoulders and starts dragging me to the front door. “Let’s eat first. Should we wake Chandler up?”

“Ah—“

“Nah, let her sleep. You know if it wasn’t for the two of you, I don’t think I would’ve made it this far.”

“It’s only been two weeks.”

“I know. That’s what I’m saying. You and Chandler are like holding on to the rope and I’m floating in the ocean of my feelings.”

“Right. About Chandler—“

He pulls the door open and pushes me through. “Did you think Syracuse was looking at her funny last night? Cuz I thought so. I might have a talk with him. Hands off because Chandler’s off-limits.”

“To Syracuse.”

He drops his arm and heads to the cabinet to pull out a box of Cornflakes. “To everyone. Grab some bowls, will you?” He moves on to the refrigerator.

I do as he tells me, and he continues to ramble.

“Chandler’s special and we can’t have Syracuse, a pussy hound, after her. It would mess everything up. We have a good dynamic right now. I don’t want it to change. Maybe after the virus has run its way through all of us and we can go back to normal, but for now let’s just keep things as they are, don’t you think?”

I set two large bowls on the table and pour the Cornflakes in. Is he really talking about Syracuse or does he know something is going on between Chandler and me, and this is his subtle way of telling me to keep it to myself?

Didn’t I tell my dad once basically the same thing? After I’d caught him in the house, he’d wanted to come clean to Mom, but I told him to keep his trap shut. He only wanted to tell her because it would drain away some of the guilt he felt. Isn’t that why I wanted to confess to Davis? So that every time I saw him, I wouldn’t feel like my gut was trying to devour itself?

“You’re spilling.”

“Huh?”

Davis reaches out a hand and places it over my bowl. Cornflakes sprinkle on top of it before I realize what I’m doing. I jerk the box upright and look down to see the cereal overflowing.

“I wasn’t paying attention,” I admit.
