Bodyguard Beast - Page 17

I didn’t want to see Papa right at this moment, but I couldn’t disobey him and I needed him to think nothing was wrong until I could find a way to fight back.

Before it was too late.

I didn't know what to expect as I walked down the stairs, but to say I wasn’t afraid would be a lie. I had given him an ultimatum, and men who had navigated their way in the top of the pile the way my father did never took well to ultimatums. My greatest fear however, was that this would destroy the relationship I had with my family, especially because I felt ready to go the distance for the cause I stood for.

I took a deep breath and knocked on his study door.

“Come,” he called.

His curt voice sent a chill down my spine. I squared my shoulders and pushed the door open.

He sat behind his massive oak desk and his face was expressionless and cold.

I didn’t make any attempt to move further into the room. Unthinkingly I adopted the defensive stance of folding my arms across my chest.

He made an impatient beckoning expression with his hand.

I walked into the middle of the room, then I noticed another person in the room. He wore a baseball cap and was seated on one of the chairs facing my father, and he was as still as death.

My skin tingled with a warning. Ahead, lay trouble.

First of all, my father’s study, or dungeon as everyone else referred to it was his sanctuary. Only two types of people had been allowed in here. It wasn’t even a room anyone unfamiliar with the house could access. You could only get to it through a hidden door in the kitchen’s pantry, and down a secret stairway all the way to the base of the house. His immediate family, myself, my mother, and grandmother were the only ones allowed to be in here ? and his most trusted aides.

But more important than this, I recognized the man’s head and the way his raven hair curled around his ears!

“This is Angelo,” my father said. “From now on, he will be completely in charge of your safety. You are not to be or go anywhere without him, until I say otherwise.”

My heart leapt into my throat.

In a daze, I watched my father as he grabbed his phone, and a bunch of keys from his desk, told Angelo that he was off in Italian, and walked past me without even glancing at me. He was that disgusted with me.

The plans I’d already set in motion to escape later that evening flashed before my eyes as I stood there rooted in shock.

By the time I found the wits to spin around, my father had already reached the door. If he’d assigned someone to follow me around day and night, that would mean his teeth were already sunk into me. I didn’t know if it was even possible to escape now, but even though I knew, at the very least, I’d lost this round, I couldn’t just let it go. I had to show I wouldn’t make it easy. I would fight to my last breath. “Is this your plan?” I demanded furiously. “Because I refuse to marry Fabio, your next course of action is to imprison me?”

Ignoring me, my father continued on his way, and shut the door closed behind him.

I was fuming, my breath coming in harsh painful puffs, but I could do absolutely nothing. I turned around and saw that Angelo had not moved.

Not even turned around to see what went on behind him. He just carried on sitting there like some Roman statue.

“And fuck you too,” I spat viciously as I headed towards the door. When I pulled it open, I sensed him rise to follow me. He was to be my shadow, and it made me want to smash my head into the wall. Again, nothing I could do about it, at least not right now, so I just walked as quickly as I could away from him. I considered running, so he would have to run to keep up, but I decided against it. That would be undignified and do nothing to further my real plans.

While I made my way across the kitchen though, I realized I couldn’t hear the sound of his footsteps, even though I could sense he still followed me closely. Still, he was as silent as a ghost. I couldn’t even pick up on the sound of his breathing. How could a man so big be that silent?

I had reached the staircase and began to climb it when I couldn’t take it anymore. I swung around suddenly and faced him.

He stopped only a few feet away. The baseball hat that hung low on his head hindered me from properly seeing his face. He wore a white t-shirt, black leather jacket, and a pair of black jeans that sat snug and low around his lean hips.
