Southern Comfort (Southern 2) - Page 70

“Olivia.” He says my name, sitting down in the chair in front of me. “Baby face.” I loathe his voice, and the nickname makes my skin crawl. “I’m so happy you came to see me.”

“Are you?” I ask him and laugh now. “Isn’t that funny? I somehow got another message.” He looks at me, and I see the change in him when he knows that I’m fucking with him.

“You look good for someone who has a concussion.” He sneers. “Too good.”

“I have to say,” I say, shaking my head. “I spent the whole month going over everything in my head.” I tap my fingers on the table in front of me. “Trying to think what is it that they wanted from me.”

“Trust me,” he starts to say, “there is nothing that you have that I want. I’ve been there, and I’ve done that. Obviously, as you saw, you didn’t really do it for me.”

“Really?” I say, now pissed. “There is nothing that you want from me?” I lean back and fold my hands, and then I think of the wire and uncross my arms. “I would imagine that you would definitely want me to get some of the money out.” If he wasn’t white before, he is now. Whatever color he had left is now gone from his face. “Oh, you see.” I lean in. “I know about the money.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he says and looks around. “No idea what you are talking about.”

“Well, then it’s a good thing because I spent some of it.” He glares at me, and I see that his body’s starting to shake. “Okay, fine, you got me. I spent a lot of it. I always wanted to have a house in the Bahamas. Then I got a beautiful house on the beach in Belize.” I look up at the ceiling. “I then spent …”

He slams his hand on the table in front of him. “Enough, you fucking bitch. ” He leans in, and if I was in front of him without the mirror, I would assume he would lunge for me, but I also have to know that I would have fought back.

“NO!” I shout out now. “It’s not enough. It will never be enough. What you did was something that a spineless coward would do, and let’s be honest. I shouldn’t have expected anything else.” I start to stand. “Goodbye, Dominic, I’ll think of you every single time I spend a penny of that money.”

“What?” he says nervously. “Olivia, wait.” I turn around. “Please,” he begs now. “You don’t understand. If you don’t give me the money, they are going to …” He stops talking when I turn back around.

“Funny, I thought you had no idea what I was talking about? Now all of a sudden, you know.” I shake my head. “You worthless piece of shit. You put those fucking accounts in my name without me even knowing.”

“Listen to me, Olivia. I didn’t mean to get you involved in all of this. But,” he says, looking at me, “I had no choice.”

“We all have choices,” I say and walk back to him “Don’t we, Dominic?” I put my hands on the table in front of me. “Just like the choice you made to put a bounty on my head.” I refuse to show him how scared I am. I refuse to show him one more tear.

“I’m sorry,” he now says. “But I need you to get me that money,” he starts to say. “I never wanted to hurt you.”

I shake my head. “The only thing you are sorry for is that you didn’t win.”

“I need that money!” He starts to yell. “Give me back my money!”

I look at him one last time, and I don’t even say goodbye to him. I walk away, and then I hear him banging on the glass. “I’ll fucking kill you myself, you fucking bitch!” he shouts. “I will fucking end you.” I put my hand to my stomach, and I see it’s shaking. The guard opens the door, and once I’m out of the room, I bend over and vomit in the trash bin that is in the corner.

Chapter Thirty

Casey

The minute she turns and walks away from him, I’m out that fucking door, making sure I’m there for her. I find her right before she throws up in the trash can in the corner.

I waited for her the whole time, pacing the small fucking room. The whole time, listening to the conversation. She sits there with all the grace in the world, showing him that he isn’t in charge of her. Showing him that he doesn’t have anything on her. Showing him that she is a motherfucking boss, exactly as I knew she would. She didn’t waver, she didn’t shake, she didn’t shed a tear. She did none of that and I was so proud of her. But now seeing her throw up and shaking I want to bust into that room and end his life myself. “Darlin’.”
