Maxen (Broken Hill Boys 3) - Page 36

I want to trust him so badly and on some level, maybe I do. Ever since Ryan’s accident, Maxen has gone above and beyond to simply be a part of my life. He helped me move, he was there when I needed a friend, and he continued being there for me even when I was dating another man.

But the question still remains; can I trust him?

Do I think he’s going to go out and sleep with a bunch of attention-seeking whores? No, I don’t, but do I fear that down the line he’ll grow bored of being in a committed relationship? Maybe.

Maxen poured his heart out. He opened up and bore his soul to me, showing me exactly what was in his heart, and maybe I’m a fool for believing it, but what I saw there was raw honesty. He truly does want to make this work and he wants to earn my forgiveness.

I’ve never quite seen him like that before. There have been many times over the past year where he’s been drunk and told me that he wants me back, but this was different. This was his soul screaming out for mine, telling me he loves me and that he’ll go to the ends of the earth to make it right.

The second I heard his discussion with Tora and listened to the raw emotion in his tone, I knew I wanted him back. Actually, I think I’ve known all along, but my hurt and pride have always stood in the way. Pushing down those walls and allowing him in…well, I’ve never felt so at ease. Letting go of that pain was so freeing. It was incredible.

Maxen broke me. He tore my heart out and left me in pieces and I was never able to put it back together. I tried so freaking hard. I took to childish pranks of revenge and sleeping with other guys, but my heart continued to ache for him, and in a flash, he healed it. I dropped my walls and let him in and now we truly have a chance to shine.

I look down at the boy who has become a man overnight. In high school, he was a childish boy who didn’t care for his future or worry about the consequences of his actions, but now, he’s a man and he’s ready to prove it. In fact, he already has.

The races were incredible and proved that he’s finally moved on from being that silly high school boy. He’s ready to make something of himself and the fact that he wants to do that with me by his side is a pleasure I thought I’d ever get to see.

My lips come down on Maxen’s and he instantly takes control. We’ve always been so good together and now that I have no reason to hold back and the anger has finally begun to fade, it’s just so much better.

I grind down onto him, wanting to feel so much more. We have all this lost time to make up for and only twenty-four hours in a day.

Maxen’s hands slip under my shirt and explore my skin as though it’s brand new territory for him. He pulls back ever so slightly and opens his eyes, and the fire within them has me ready to forgive him and beg for so much more. “We should take this slow,” he says, clearly trying to do the right thing, but the tortured look on his face tells me that slowing down is the last thing he wants to do. “Maybe I should take you for dinner.”

I shake my head as I look into his burning eyes. “I’m suddenly not so hungry.”

Max growls low in his throat and before I know it, those hands on my back have moved to my ass and he’s lifting us both off the couch. My legs twine around his waist as he effortlessly holds me up, not once removing his lips from mine.

He walks down to my bedroom and bumps the door open with his ass, making me laugh against his lips and curl my arms tighter around him. There’s a desperation that I’ve never felt before and I need it more than I need my next breath.

Max kicks the door closed behind then gently places my ass down on my dresser and pulls back to look at me. “You’re so fucking gorgeous, Brooke,” he murmurs with an adoration that’s so intense that it forces my eyes to well with tears again.

I hook my legs around his waist again and draw him in closer as I rest my forehead against his. “I’m so in love with you, Max,” I whisper into the quiet room. “I don’t think I’ve ever stopped.”

He runs the back of his knuckles down my face, looking at me as though I’m the most precious thing he’s ever laid his eyes on. “I know, baby,” he murmurs. “I’ve always known.”
