Maxen (Broken Hill Boys 3) - Page 5

“Answer the question,” Tora says with a strange tone in her voice, making me instantly suspicious. “Which one would you pick?”

“Hold on,” I tell her, pulling the phone away and putting her on speakerphone as I look over the choices. “Ummmmm,” I say, taking my sweet ass time looking over the three options. I study them closely, but in my head, there’s a clear winner. “I’d go with the cottage one. It has personality.”

“That’s what I thought,” Tora laughs, knowing me too well. “How would you like to live with me there?”

My jaw hits the floor. Did I just hear her right? I couldn’t have.

“What?” I grumble. Maybe Tora has finally gone insane. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Well,” she tells me. “Mom and dad are both going to London and they didn’t want me to be alone in such a big house. So…they asked if I wanted to move into a home closer to campus with you.”

I suck in a deep breath, unable to believe what I’m hearing. Nope, there’s no way. This has got to be a prank. Surely, she’s fucking with me. “With me specifically?”

“Yes, you,” she laughs. “Who else? I told mom last week about your bitch roommate and how you’re hating it. You know, she thought two birds, one stone.”

This couldn’t be happening. This bitch is literally handing me all my deepest, darkest desires on a silver platter. I try to calm my racing heart. “Holy shit,” I boom with laughter. “Are you for real? We’re moving in together?”

“As long as you say ‘yes’ then we are.”

As if I’m going to say no!

I shake my head, still looking down at the little cottage home that could potentially be mine and Tora’s. This is literally insane. We’re going to have a place of our own, just like we’ve always talked about. “Holy shit,” I squeal again, finally allowing the excitement to overtake me. “YES! Of course. Oh, my God. This is so awesome. We’re going to live together!”

“You sure?” Tora questions. “Dad’s going to call the realtor tomorrow and put a deposit on it. We’ll have to go and check it out first, but yeah? You’re in?”

She must be insane to think I’m not in. I’m so fucking in that she can consider my bags already packed. “Hell yes, I’m in. I can’t believe this,” I tell her. “We’ve talked about living together for years and now it’s actually happening.”

“I thought you’d be excited about this.”

“Oh, my God. I have to look at the pictures again.” I do just that and begin flicking through all the images, taking in the perfect little bathroom and modern kitchen. It’s absolutely beautiful with tons of personality. There’s an incredible master bedroom which I’m assuming Tora will take as her dad’s the one purchasing the property, but I don’t even care. Anything is better than this shit I’m putting up with here.

I wonder what kind of time frame we’re working with. Would we be living together this time next week, or next month, or maybe three months from now? Not wanting to sound too desperate, I ask, “When are your parents leaving?”

Tora’s sharp gasp comes sailing through the line. “Shit. Am I a bad daughter if I didn’t ask?”

Laughter bubbles up my throat. “Uh, yeah,” I tease, “but if I got offered my own place, I’d probably forget to be a decent human being as well.”

I can practically hear Tora rolling her eyes through the phone. “Hey, how’d your date with Lukas go? Is he the one? Did he sweep you off your feet and give you butterflies while making you stutter over your words and blush like a schoolgirl?”

“What?” I scoff, more than happy with this change of topic as memories of our date come rushing back. “First off. I’m not like you. I don’t have those issues when talking to guys. I’m confident and sexy and I know it. And secondly, yes. I think I’m in love. He’s taking me out again during the week.”

“Where did he take you?”

“Well,” I gush, more than ready to tell her all about it, not sparing a single detail. “Because it was so spontaneous, he took me to one of those café’s on campus and bought me lunch, and then we made out beside his car for the rest of the afternoon.”

“What?” she gasps as a smile spreads wide across my face. “You didn’t screw him?”

I roll my eyes. That’s so like Tora to ask. “No, but don’t get me wrong, I felt his hard-on grinding up against me the whole time and let me tell you, it’s big. He’s hiding a beast between those legs, but I told you, I want to date, for real. Like you and Nate. I’m not going to ruin it by jumping straight into bed with the guy. He’ll think I’m some kind of whore and run for the hills.”
