Victoriously Yours - Page 50

Kenzie had been a little miffed over my duplicity, but it had been necessary. As penance, I even helped her finish the inventory before one of her chefs arrived to let us out. From there, we went back to the hotel where my room was booked, and I tried to make up for everything I had done, tonight and in the past, one orgasm at a time. It was well into the morning hours before we both went to sleep. This time, I was exhausted from something well worth every ounce of energy I’d expelled. My hands and cock weren’t sore from me masturbating, but instead from trying to brand myself onto every inch of her delectable body.

The night’s activities didn’t stop me from waking up at the crack of dawn, anyway. It was one of the reasons I despised traveling east to west. The time zones were brutal. I made sure to shower and I even had time to go downstairs and pick up some breakfast items for her. When I made it back to the room with a tray of things I thought she might like, Kenzie was slowly stirring.

“Wake up, Sleeping Beauty,” I told her, then placed the tray on top of the desk.

“How long have you been up?” she asked me as she stifled a yawn.

“Long enough to watch the opening bell from the livestream.”

“That was like...” she said, and I chuckled as I watched her mentally try to do the math in her head.

“It was seven o’clock your time. You looked like you could use the sleep, so I didn’t want to wake you. Do you have work today?”

I was hoping to get to spend some time with her, and while I doubted Phoenix had any of the normal glitz and glamour I was used to, I was sure there would be something she could show me in the city.

“Not until later this evening,” she replied.

Kenzie got out of the bed, and drew the sheet around her. I watched it drag behind her as she made her way to the chair in front of me. “There’s no need for modesty with me, Kenzie. I’ve touched, licked, bitten, or fucked every inch of you last night.”

She blushed, and I loved the effect I had on her. It reminded me a lot of our youth. After she’d been taken away via the ambulance, I had wondered what had become of her. As the time passed by, however, other things drew my focus like school and business, and it allowed me to push all memories of her into the back of my mind where they stayed until we reunited at the CHG Seaport.

Last night, I had admitted possessing feelings for a woman, which was more than I’d ever been able to do in the past. I had almost expected to wake up and this be nothing more than a dream, but she was in my arms when my lashes raised, and there was nothing else on earth I would rather have.

She opened the metal dome and I watched her intently as she popped a strawberry into her mouth. Memories of those lush lips wrapped around my cock the night before came rushing back and I had to adjust myself in my seat. The urge to drag her back to the bed was strong, but part of my treatment for this addiction was finding ways to resist temptation, and knowing Kenzie was naked behind the sheet was the greatest one of all.

I was proud of myself for holding back this long, and needing to change my frame of mind, I smiled at her as she continued to eat a few pieces of the fresh fruit. “I’d like for you to show me around Phoenix today, if you have time.”

She looked up from the bowl of fruit and held the grape just inches from her lips. “I need to go home to change clothes, but I’d love to.”

She popped the small green sphere into her mouth, then grinned at me. Since we’d reunited in New York City, we had done nothing outside of the kitchen other than fight or have sex. I was now looking forward to spending time with her like we used to do as teenagers.

I needed to give her some space, so I went back to my laptop and allowed her to finish eating in peace. Once she was done, I glanced up from one of the drafts on the Seattle project. “Are you ready?”

She gave me a nod, so I finished skimming over the document before signing it electronically, then I closed my laptop. I grabbed the keys to my rental car and the two of us headed downstairs. Kenzie was silent in the elevator and while I wanted to know what she was thinking, I needed to give her some semblance of space. I’d concluded that I loved her a while back, but she just had it sprung on her the night before.

We exited the elevator once on the ground floor and I led her to the car. She rattled off the address and after I placed it into the GPS, I looked over at her. A few months ago, I would’ve been the first to laugh if someone would’ve mentioned my name and love in the same sentence. Now, I couldn’t think of anything more natural.

“So, where are you taking me?” I asked her.

She let out a giggle. “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

I shook my head and pretended to be annoyed, but the truth was that I enjoyed putting a smile on her face even if it was at my expense. I pulled away from the hotel and decided to find out how invested she was in Arizona. Well, she opened a restaurant there, but I needed to know what I was up against.

“Do you prefer desert life to that of New York City?”

She took a minute to answer, and I wondered if it was her way of choosing her words carefully. “I suppose I do.”

“Hmmm,” was all that I said out loud while I was inwardly cursing.

“Hmmm?” she asked, mocking my words.

“I mean Phoenix looks nice enough, but I guess I figured you were more of a city—”

“Phoenix is a city,” she interjected, and I growled.

“Yes, but....” I didn’t know what else to add and the GPS saved me from saying something anyway when it signaled the upcoming turn.
