The Bodyguard Affair - Page 27

A little. Because if Sam wasn’t allowed to swat this brat’s ass, then she would at least make her point clear in other ways.

Even if Bianca did look back at her with the kind of coquettish look that only incensed Sam more.

“You know,” Bianca said. “Big, tough military women like you who haven’t felt anything but hurt for most of their lives. Like, move on already. What, you’re going to be fifty and still swinging your arms like you’re the hottest shit to ever make it out of Basic Training?”

“What does me being ex-military have to do with anything?” At this point, all Sam could figure was that Bianca was saying anything she could to get a rise out of her.

It wasn’t working. At all.

“It’s just an observation.” Bianca leaned her arm against Sam’s car. “And I get it. I’m into it.”

Sam threw her hands up. “What is it that you want? What do you think these mind games are going to achieve? You’re lucky that I have had military training, because anyone else would have quit before putting up with your shit. Or worse.”

“Or what? They’d do something about it? Teach me a little lesson?”

“I can’t say I haven’t considered it.”

“Neither can I.”

Was Bianca seriously coming onto her right now? “Just so we’re clear? There is nothing between us. There is not going to be anything between us. It’s not happening.”

Bianca kicked off the car, her chin tipped upward as she stared Sam down. “Why not?”

“Why not? Because—”

“Are you trying to tell me that none of the flirting I’ve been doing has gotten through to you? Are you really that dense? God. Get out of my way so I can go out and buy some neon lights to slap on my ass. But you probably wouldn’t notice that either. You’re insufferable.”

Heat rose to Sam’s skin. “I’m insufferable? You’re the one who—”

But her words were cut off by Bianca. By her lips.

Against Sam’s.

Kissing her like there was no tomorrow.

Desire awakened inside her like a beast from the depths. The touch of Bianca’s lips, soft and sweet at first, then growing more and more insistent, sent hunger rumbling through Sam. And Bianca’s quivering, trembling body was the perfect meal.

We shouldn’t do this. But Sam was doing nothing to stop it. Nor was she giving into it. The kiss battered at her defenses, but she withstood it, her heart and her head at war with one another.

No. Absolutely not.

Yes. It’s about damn time!

The client’s daughter. The client’s young, girlish daughter. The client’s young, girlish, willful daughter, who both stirred Sam’s primal urges and reminded her what it meant to be in over her head…

Her head won out.

Sam pushed Bianca away gently. Confusion and humiliation flashed in her young charge’s eyes.

Shit. What am I doing?Sam was a professional. She didn’t let feelings get in the way, ever. No matter how irresistible they were.

She resisted.

“I’m sorry.” Bianca shook her head, curls bouncing against her shoulders. “I… I shouldn’t have done that.”

But over the past few minutes, Sam’s resolve, her years of training, had been crumbling away. Since she’d laid eyes on Bianca sitting at the bar in that lacy dress, golden curls cascading down her back, Sam had been weak.

Because if there was one thing she was truly weak for, it was a woman who pushed all of her buttons in the right ways. Someone who begged to be put in her place…
