Fall From Grace - Page 66

“Then why are you looking at her like that?”

I turn and look at him. “You telling me I can’t even look?”

“That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

I lean back in my chair. “All I’ve ever done is look.”

I see the annoyance on his face. “You’ve been a miserable fuck the last two weeks. And don’t think I haven’t noticed that she’s been working out of the conference room with the other interns. You better not have fucked her? I’m serious, Taylor, I will end this friendship if you fuck over my sister.”

Yeah, well, you do not want to know just how much I have fucked her. “I’m not fucking her,” I lie. “She just said some words to me about Tiffany the other day and it pissed me off and I argued with her. I was an asshole. And she decided she didn’t want to be around me.”

“How does she know about Tiffany?”

“My sisters-in-law. Apparently they are all friends now.” I sigh and take a sip of my scotch. “I’m just grateful she swooped in and put Tiffany in her place.”

“Yeah, I didn’t expect that.” Owen laughs.

“How long have you known?” I ask him as I look into my nearly empty glass.

“Car, it’s not important.”

“Humor me.”

He sighs and leans back in his chair. “A month.”

“She really did move on fast,” I retort.

“You know how she—”

I hold up a hand, cutting him off. “I know, Owen. I know I should have listened to you, my family, anyone who warned me about her. But I loved her. You need to understand that. I. Loved. Her. So much so I saw past her flaws.”

“I know you did, man. I know. That’s why I didn’t want to tell you.”

I swallow the rest of the scotch. “I get it. I would have been a miserable prick the last month if I had known.”

Owen snorts. “More so than usual.”

“I do take offense to that.”

He shakes his head as he stands. “I’m sure you don’t. Well, I need to grab Grace and head home. Chelsi probably wants to get some sleep, so I need to be on baby duty.”

I look over at Grace and see how happy she is. “I’ll take her home, man. She looks like she is having fun.”

He shoots me a look.

“Don’t worry, I won’t put my hands on her.”

“Fine but have her home by two.”

I chuckle as I trace the edge of my glass with my finger. “I’ll make sure to tell her you said that. I’m sure it will go over well.”

“I’m serious, man. Do not—”

“Got it.”

“See you in the office on Monday.”

I nod and watch him walk up to Grace, no doubt telling her to be careful around me.
