Fall From Grace - Page 25

CARSON

She didn’t fuck him. I don’t want it to be a relief but it is. I don’t want to be jealous. But I am. When I saw her when I walked into that wine bar last night, I couldn’t help but stare at her as I waited for the men I was meeting with. She’s gorgeous. And it’s not just her smile or her green eyes. It’s everything about her. She’s smart, funny, intense. She doesn’t want to put up with my shit and I see her fighting it every single day.

I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Not as I heard her telling that woman at the bar that she needed to masturbate. She was right this morning when she said I wanted to fuck her on the bar. I did. And that’s why I was jealous. I was jealous that another man got to laugh with her, touch her, kiss her. I haven’t felt this possessive over anyone, not even Tiffany. I don’t know what it is about Grace Prescott but she does something to me.

“What’s wrong with you?” Owen asks me as he pulls up to the courthouse.

“Nothing,” I say. Because I can’t tell him my mind is wrapped around his damn sister.

“That Phillips case getting to you?”

I look over at him and shrug. “It’s just all fucked up. I mean, the guy is guilty as fuck when it comes to his infidelity. But to kill his own family? Something isn’t adding up. There is so much evidence that could go either way.”

“Good thing this case is an easy one today.”

I nod. “As long as the prosecution agrees to go with the plea deal.”

“It would be fucked up if they didn’t. Fifteen years versus letting him walk away when you work your magic on trial.” Owen turns the engine off of his SUV. “Still don’t know how you worked your way with that one.”

“You were the one that did all the work getting manslaughter on the table.”

Owen steps out of the SUV and I follow him through the parking lot. “Wish they would put us together more often.”

“I’ll see what I can do when I make partner.”

“I don’t want to be your lackey though. So never mind.”

I chuckle as I punch him in the arm. “You could make partner too.”

“Yeah but then I’d need my name next to yours. And I don’t want to hear you bitching about my name being before yours.”

“Who said it would be?”

He looks at me as we make it to the top step of the courthouse. “Really, man? Boseman, Duvall, Hayes, Prescott, and Taylor. It’s alphabetical.”

“But with Duvall retiring and stepping down, I think Boseman, Hayes, Taylor, and Prescott sounds better.”

“Whatever you tell yourself to sleep at night.”

I walk into my office in a better mood than I left. Our client took the plea deal and prosecution settled. Another case in the books.

I don’t pay attention as I walk in, too busy reading a text. But when I look up, all I see is ass. Grace’s ass bent over in front of my desk. I don’t shut the door so I can watch her as she cleans up the scotch it looks like she spilled. I run my tongue along my lip as I remember that ass naked, bent over my couch. The way she took my dick. I lied to her earlier when I said it wasn’t memorable and right now all those memories are hitting me right in the dick.

I shut the door and clear my throat and she snaps up, spinning around and leaning against my desk for support. “Hi… I ugh spilled your scotch. Sorry. I tripped over the rug but I cleaned it up. I don’t think it will stain.”

I smirk at her as I walk toward her, throwing my briefcase on the chair across from the desk. I pluck the empty glass out of her hand and enjoy watching her try to catch her breath from my proximity.

I step away and walk over to the bar cart, pouring myself a glass of scotch. It’s my ritual after a win. And I knew going into the courthouse today the plea deal would work.

I walk around my desk and take my jacket off and hand it to her, knowing it will piss her off. But I kind of like seeing her that way. Because she always submits to me in the end. “Hang this up.”

She looks at me like she wants to say something back but just takes my jacket and stomps over to the closet. I sit down to see my steak from Gloria’s waiting for me. “Call the cleaning service and let them know to clean the rug tonight.”

She gapes at me and I take pleasure in her internal struggle to fight for dominance. But I just ignore her and cut into my steak.
