“Megan, how can you say that?”
“I’m not being horrible, and you know I want you to be with James. I mean, seriously, I absolutely do, and I’d hate for him to lose his job over this. But let’s be real here. You guys couldn’t really keep on the way you’ve been, being together in secret. It’s almost been eight weeks. I know people do that all the time and have this secret life, but is that how you wanted to live for the next nine months?”
My shoulders slump, and she releases me. “No. I don’t, but it was what we arranged. It was all we could do.”
“I hear you, and I understand, but personally, I worried that it was too much. But… that said, I hope things will be okay. It was just a kiss.”
“It was enough.” They heard what we said. The kiss and our declaration of love are enough evidence to establish that we’re involved. There was no mistake about it, and I can’t even lie and say I kissed him but he didn’t kiss me back.
Plus, there are camera’s in that hall. I couldn’t have been more careless.
“Paige, worrying isn’t going to help you. If the shit really has hit the fan, you just have to trust that something will work out somehow.”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Don’t I?Why am I saying I don’t know what’s going to happen? I have a pretty good idea from what James said last time his career was called into question. He told me he couldn’t take the risk.

At the time, it hurt me even though I understood. I understood and didn’t expect him to do anything about the kiss although I wanted him to.
Now… so much has happened between us. We’ve gone through so much together emotionally. I’ve never been with anyone the way I was with James, and I’ve never loved anyone the way I love him.
If the kiss didn’t ruin him and he manages to sort things out he won’t want to take any further risks by staying with me.
He loves teaching too much to do that.
