Ruthless King (Dark Syndicate 6) - Page 37

“You’d take me out?” I ask nervously.

The corners of his lips twitch into a half smile. “Don’t you want to go out?”

“Yeah… I mean, yes, of course. That would be nice.” I wonder what we’ll do and where he’ll take me.

“Good. By the same token, Marcello will also inform you when I’m not going to be home, or if I’ll be back late. If the latter happens, just go to your room.”

“Okay, I’ll do that.” I guess when the latter happens, I’ll have time off from being his whore.

The sullen thought tugs at my heart.

As attracted as I am to him, the attraction is all in my head. I’m just a business perk. This man does not need to pay for sex. I’m sure the job was set out the way it was because he’s so rich he can afford to own another person.

Also, being attracted and feeling this insane chemistry don’t change the fact that I’m whoring out my body to him because my stakes are high.

We reach a set of stairs that again look older, and I guess this must be part of the original design of the castle. They’re not as wide as the main steps but similar in structure with wooden rails. The rails have ornate designs carved into them I can’t help but notice.

He takes me to the second floor, and we walk toward the back of the house. I was right with my initial assumption.

We stop by a large wooden door he opens with a key. More elegance greets me when the door swings open, revealing a room big enough to be considered an apartment. Hell, it’s practically the same size as my apartment back home.

I didn’t think I needed anything too big because I was always going back to my parents’ home to visit and probably spent more time with them than at home. That didn’t mean I wouldn’t have wanted something big and beautiful like this.

A stone archway separates a bedroom from the living room space. At the far corner is another archway leading to a balcony with glass sliding doors.

Leather sofas sit at the other corner with a glass coffee table settled in the middle.

There’s a mini bar with drinks already set out. The jug of ice and a decanter make me think Marcello set this all up, and I feel slightly uneasy because that means he knows what I am.

Alejandro leads me over to the sofas and motions for me to sit. I do and watch him as he makes his way to the bar.

“What’s your drink?” he asks.

“Just water will be fine.” I want to be lucid. I’m already nervous as it is.

He gives me a sinful smile. “Lucia, you don’t drink water when you’re with me.”

That sounds more like a warning so I glance at the selection of drinks and decide on the wine.

“Wine, then. Red wine.”

“Wise choice.”

He opens the bottle of wine and pours my drink first, then he reaches for the scotch and pours himself a half a glass.

My gaze drops to his long, powerful legs as he strides back to me with our drinks in his large hands.

He hands me mine and sits in the chair opposite me.

“Drink.”

I do and enjoy the sweet flavor. It’s been a while since I had alcohol. I never had a problem with it, but when I was hooked on drugs, the two seemed to go hand in hand. Like one would trigger needing the other. I don’t feel like that anymore. I’ve been clean for two and a half years now, and it feels good to have that self-control back.

“This tastes nice,” I tell him when he looks at me with expectancy.

“It’s made from the sweetest grapes.”

Resting his drink on the table, he reaches for a thick brown envelope and hands it to me.
