Idon’t think my temper has ever flared the way it did when I saw Maksim put his hands on Olivia.

In the moment he touched her, she really did feel like my woman. She felt the same way last night too, and this morning when I left her asleep in my bed.

I shouldn’t get worked up over Maksim. I know what pissed him off.

It was the same thing that made anger flare inside me because I saw her looking toward the gate too.

Clever thing she is, using her outside allowance to scout the grounds of my fortress and look for a chink.

Of course, I know she wants to escape. Anybody taken captive is going to be thinking of an exit strategy. Even if they’re terrified of the consequences of doing such a foolish thing.

A woman like her will cast consequences aside and try to do what she can to get what she wants.

That’s who Olivia is. I don’t need to know her for any length of time to see that spark of fire inside her that keeps her going. It makes her want to fight back and stay alive.

It also wants freedom. She’s like the wild bird who’s been caged by poachers struggling to break free.

Maybe it’s that fire that attracted me to her in the first place.

That gated area might be the only escape route for her if she can get through it. She was looking at it like she could, and I wouldn’t put it past her to try. I have cameras there like everywhere else, and I’m certain she knows that but it won’t stop her from trying.

I’d try too if I were her.

That’s the oldest section of the house. I kept it that way on purpose because it reminded me of the home I lived in Russia with both my parents. We lived by Beach Laskovy in Saint Petersburg. My mother used to take Viktor, Maksim, and I down to the beach all the time. In the summer it was every day.

I’ve always lived near the beach since, regardless of what country I’m in. The home I shared with Gabriella was a beach house too.

I continue to watch her even though she looks away first, and my possessiveness over her makes me watch Maksim too who has his eyes fixed on her.

He’s only doing what I asked but it pisses me off that he’s even looking. There’s no way he can look at her and not feel the luring attraction of the siren’s song.

I can hear it loud with perfect clarity from here. It feels like it’s screaming at me like some poor bastard sailor who’s lost his way at sea, and his mind too.

“You know Pakhan, if I weren’t mistaken, I’d assume you’re planning to murder your cousin,” Ilya states from behind me.

It’s unusual I didn’t hear him come in.

He raises one sharp brow and I stare back at him with my trademark nonchalance.

“I’m not.”

“Permission to speak freely Pakhan?”

“Granted.”

“It might be wise to distance yourself from the girl if she’s screwing with your mind.”

“What makes you think she’s screwing with my mind?”

“I know she is.” He pauses for a beat and an uneasy expression forms on his stony face. Worried eyes stare back at me, uncommon for Ilya. “I think it might be prudent you should get whatever fascination you need to out of your system.”

He means fuck her and forget her like I do with every other faceless woman I encounter.

After what’s happened so far, I have this feeling it won’t be that easy. Or I would have done it already. I shouldn’t need him to tell me I should fuck a woman to relive my fascination.
