Merciless Hunter (Dark Syndicate 4) - Page 89

The horror makes me jump.

I land in strong arms that hold me in place and I’m pressed against the hard wall of a chest.

“Shhh, I got you,” a voice says in the darkness. It’s not Jude. It’s Aiden.

“Please don’t let him hurt me,” I beg.

“I won’t.”

I can’t quite process where I am just yet. The nightmare was so visceral it felt real. As real as it did when it happened.

Aiden’s stares at me. In the light of the moon his eyes look silver and the clear cut lines of his profile sharper.

I blink and regain focus.

“I got you. You’re safe.”

Safe…

Safe with him?

Am I?

“It was a nightmare, Olivia.”

“Nightmare…”

No that wasn’t a mere nightmare. It was part of the dark memories from the past that keep haunting me. Memories of when everything changed. When Eric went missing.

Those nightmares only resurface when I’m scared. Like now.

And, if Aiden couldn’t see the effect it had on me moments ago. He does when thick drops of blood start dripping from my nose.
