Perfect Illusion (Perfect 1) - Page 98

A ridiculously boyish smile enters his face.

“Fuck, yeah.”

And then he wastes no time in discarding the rest of our clothes and ravishing me.

***

It’s been an hour since our lovemaking session. Neither of us wanted to leave bed, still too engrossed with exploring the other’s body as much as we could before we have to fall back into reality and get back onto our usual routine again.

I get hungry after a while, so I creep into the kitchen to grab Kayden’s hidden stash of cookie dough ice cream at the back of the freezer and jump back into bed. It’s been a while since either of us had anything remotely unhealthy, and since I’m no longer his trainer, I figure I’ll just let this one moment of indulgence slide.

We’re both still naked, neither of us really bothering with clothes because of how accustomed we are seeing each other this way. I especially like stroking the perfect specimen of manhood between his legs whenever I feel like it, rousing a lusting temperature inside of him every time I do so.

Neither of us have looked at our phones all morning, nor do we plan to. We both want to stay in our little bubble, at least for a while longer.

Now, Kayden is lying at an incline on the side of his bed while I set my head on his torso, my disgustingly greasy hair splayed over his skin. He doesn’t mind it one bit, even though I’ve insisted on tying it into a bun. I think he likes pulling on it when we have sex.

“How about this tattoo?” I whisper, leaning over to trace the tattoo on his left shoulder blade. It’s a small inscription that reads “I did not weep; within, I turned to stone.”

“When did you get this one?”

“After Clarissa died,” he tells me. “It’s from Dante’s Inferno.” When I make a face, he lets out an embarrassed chuckle. “Cheesy, I know. It was the first piece of literature I read in school, and I don’t know why, but the words always come to mind when I remember how I felt about her death.”

I nod silently, fingers brushing over the words again like I can somehow feel his agony by touching it.

“What about this one?” I say as I point to another spot across his abdomen. It’s a tattoo of a little butterfly—not quite something I’d imagine Kayden ever getting. So far, every ink he’s ever gotten has had meaning to it. I wonder if this one also has links to his past. “Does it stand for hope or something? A new life reborn?”

“I wish it was that deep.” He scoffs. “You don’t want to know.”

“Try me.”

He grows quiet, debating whether it’s a good idea to say anything. But eventually, he concedes with a sigh.

“It was stupid, okay?” He prefaces, stroking my back lazily. “Evans and I were very drunk one night after a bender and he suggested something that may have sounded appealing at the time.”

“No,” I whisper, feeling like I know exactly where this is going.

“Yes,” he grumbles, and my mouth falls open in shock.

“We got matching friendship butterfly tattoos.”

I explode into fits of laughter. Kayden rolls his eyes, pink rushing to his face in embarrassment.

“But why didn’t you remove it?” I ask, unable to keep the grin off my face.

Kayden shrugs. “I don’t know. I’ve never gotten a tattoo removed before.”

His body shifts as he twists toward his nightstand, where we’d placed the tub of ice cream, grabs it, jabs a spoon into the soft cream, and sticks it into his mouth. There’s something about the way Kayden licks the back of the spoon, tongue sweeping over it like he’s savoring every last sinful drop, that gets me fucked up. So far he’s had that wicked tongue on all parts of my body now, except for the spot where I crave it the most.

Though a little part of me tells me that he’s holding the best for last.

My eyes fixate on his tattoos, and I squash the dirty thoughts wandering about in my mind again. My finger swirls around his chest as I stare at them in fascination.

Tattoos have always intrigued me. I’ve rarely seen a fighter who hasn’t been inked in all the years I’ve done MMA. It almost feels like a rite of passage into the sport.

“Maybe I should get a tattoo,” I tell him, pointing to the area on the inside of my arm, below my wrist. “Right here.”

Kayden follows the direction of my finger. He cocks a wary brow. “You sure? Skin’s pretty tight here. It’s the most painful area to get one.”
