Perfect Illusion (Perfect 1) - Page 62

Jax’s eyes flare with unbridled fury.

“Where is she?” He demands, head swirling around.

“I’m not gonna cause a scene if you just give her back to me.”

“She’s not mine to give, nor is she yours to take,” Kayden says, his voice firm and ringing with reassurance. “Stop treating her like she didn’t decide to leave your sleezy ass on her own.”

“She’s mine,” Jax declares. “Day or night, she belongs with me. And she’s coming back with me tonight. Tell me where she is, and I promise I’ll keep the fight between us in that cage. You don’t want to get in my way, Killer.”

Instead of caving, Kayden hoots with laughter, making a mockery out of Jax.

“Wow, I think I’m really going to enjoy fucking you up in that cage and taking that championship away from you.”

Kayden stalks toward Jax until he’s a mere foot away from him. Protective anger rears up in him as he seethes. “There’s no way I’m giving you Sienna. She’s her own person and she can make her own choices. But I know for a fact that she’s better off by my side than yours.”

“She will never love you like she loved me,” Jax retorts. “I was everything to her.”

“Please,” I call as I swagger toward Jax and his goons, my hand swinging the crowbar effortlessly. “Don’t make it sound like you were that special to me.”

All heads whip in my direction. Jax’s dark eyes soften when he sees me.

“Princess,” he breathes, already striding toward me.

I haul the crowbar up over my shoulder, ready to aim.

His entire body freezes at my weapon, staying put where he is. He lifts a fist, signaling his men to do the same.

“Stay away from Kayden or I will splatter all of yourfucking brains out with this!” I yell in a frenzied temper as I dart in front of Kayden protectively, wedging myself between him and Jax’s men. “I’m not afraid of you. Or your goons!”

Gales of laughter fly out of their mouths.

“You think I’m joking?” My eyes flash with warning.

“All right. Fine. Don’t believe me. Why don’t I give you two options here? Option one: get the fuck out of our faces and disappear. Or option two: stay RIGHT HERE and be my fucking piñatas!”

Low murmurings pour from Jax’s men. But nobody dares to shout an answer, not even Jax himself, who looks like he’s internally debating whether to take my physical threat seriously.

“DING, DING, DING! ” I say manically. “Time’s up! I think I’m gonna go with option two!”

I swing my crowbar back to gain momentum and right before I swing it back, Jax interrupts me, holding both hands up in surrender.

“All right, fine.” He urges me. “If that’s what you want, we’ll go.”

“Leave us alone,” I demand, leaning against the crowbar like a walking cane. “Our fight is in that cage, four weeks from now. I’m not in the business of fighting you here. It’s too merciful for you. You deserve to have your ass savagely handed to you in the cage while everyone there watches, hungry and chanting for your blood.”

“I love it when you talk dirty to me like that, princess.”

He purrs at me, a tongue sweeping over his teeth. A hand rubs over his chin as he contemplates my words. “All right.

I’ll play your game. It’s certainly more intriguing than the one me and your sister play.”

At the mention of Beth, the outrage boils over and I spit at his feet.

“Go to hell, Jax.”

He isn’t the least bit disgusted. In fact, it further serves to spur him on.

“Mmmm.” Jax presses his lips together, edges curling upward smugly. “I’ll be sure to meet you there, princess.”
