Admire Me (Rough Edges 2) - Page 17

Why does it matter? Her name is irrelevant to the story.

“Harper.”

She smiles, and then puts her hands up. “Well, it seems you're dating my friend. So, I can’t ask any more questions because I already know the answers.”

Out of all the girl’s in Grapevine, my date has to be with one of her friends? What did Harper tell her about the date? Maybe I can use this to my advantage. Although I don’t like the thought of Tessa being friends with her. Not because of anything against Tessa but I like to keep my business private. We all know how girls are, they gossip, and I don’t want anything said out of context. Hopefully, they aren’t close.

“Well, what did she say?”

“Nope, not my business to tell. I’m officially out of this. You’ll have to talk to Damon only,” Tessa says, excusing herself from the room.

The notification tone goes off. That must be her.

Harper: Had a good time last night.

I smile looking down at my phone.

Me: So, did I. When are you free to go out again?

My attention is now placed elsewhere, and hearing from her is just what I need. I don’t know why I keep doubting myself, especially when we had an amazing dinner.

Harper: Maybe this time, I could cook dinner for you. Stay in.

I like the sound of that. Did I just find a good-looking, intelligent woman who can cook? Jackpot.

Me: Sounds fantastic. When?

When I look up, they are both staring at me, eyebrows raised. It’s not like they don’t get while having company. Chill.

“Aren’t you here to visit?” Tessa asks.

Harper: How about now?

Me: See you in 20 or so.

“Well, time for me to head out. Supposed to be at Harper’s.”

“Already? Wow! It must be going well for you guys to be seeing each other every night? That’s great. Have fun,” Tessa says, watching me walk to the door.

“Oh, I will,” I respond, closing the door behind me.

Things are obviously looking up for me in the dating game, and hopefully it continues upward. Harper is a blessing in disguise. It almost seems too good to be true, for us to hit off this well, right?

I put the Jeep in reverse and look over my right shoulder to make sure I am clear of traffic, before backing out and heading over to her place. Harper is an amazing woman, and she seems genuine which only heightens my want to get to know her better. Hell, I’ll see her everyday if she wants.

I pass through Main Street with barely any traffic, and head down Heather Court looking for her address, and upon finding it, park on the street. Three deep breaths are taken to calm my nerves before walking up her steps, and knocking on the door.

When Harper opens the door, I take in the leggings and t-shirt she has on and revel in the fact she still looks gorgeous. I’m glad I didn’t get dressed up, because it must be a low key night, which are my favorite. She shuts the door behind me, and I follow her into the kitchen. My shoulder leans against the entryway and watch her whip around the area, preparing everything.

“Have a seat. You don’t have to stand while I cook,” Harper laughs.

“Oh, of course.” I take a seat at the kitchen table, watching her make her away around the kitchen, prepping the food, and dancing around a bit. She is so full of energy.

“Wanna have a glass of wine until dinner’s done?” she asks, opening the cabinet, and peering over at me. “I’ve got white and red.”

“I’ll take red.”

I’m trying to concentrate, but my thoughts are getting to me, and psyching me out.
