Ward's Castle - Page 27

LILA

“Have a good day at camp,”I tell Beau, giving him a kiss on the cheek before he darts out the door to jump into the car.

“What about my goodbye kiss?” Drix asks, his hand coming to rest on my hip. This is all a bit surreal and not how I thought this morning was going to go. I was sure I was going to be in trouble. I’d not only ditched my security, I'd gotten myself in way over my head. I was lucky Drix still found me somehow. I’m actually surprised he hasn’t mentioned any of it to me.

When my alarm went off for me to get up to get Beau ready for camp, Drix reached over and flipped it off before planting a kiss right on my mouth, letting me know last night had not been a dream.

Then he told me to rest while he got Beau ready. That he’d take him to camp for me today. Then he rolled out of bed and got ready. I lay there in a bit of shock as I replayed the night before in my head. All the things I’d said to Drix played out in my mind. Then all the things he’d said in response.

So many of Drix’s moods and the things he said make so much more sense to me now. I should have realized it all a long time ago, but growing up unwanted by your own parents makes it hard to believe and accept that someone like Drix could truly want me. Never mind love me. All this time he’s been a big grump because he wanted me and didn’t think he could have me. His extreme overprotectiveness had a lot to do with jealousy.

“You want a goodbye kiss too?” I smirk. He pulls me in toward him. How the tables have turned.

“I want more than a kiss, but that will have to wait till later.” A thrill rushes through my body as he lays a deep, hard possessive kiss on me that leaves me breathless. “Fuck,” he groans against my mouth. Drix’s hard cock presses into my stomach. “I’d come right back after dropping Beau off, but there are a few things I have to handle today.”

“I understand.” I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed, but I should know that Drix is a bit of a workaholic.

“Babe, don’t give me that look.”

“What?” I hadn’t realized I was making any sort of expression.

“I promise you, things are going to change. Soon you’ll be sick of how all over you I am.” He gives me a little smile that only makes him look more attractive.

“I’m not so sure about that, but I suppose we’ll see.” I know deep down inside that there is no way I’ll ever tire of Drix being around.

“Why don’t you move some of your stuff over to the master bedroom?”

“Really?”

“Yes, really. We’re getting married.” He leans down and lays another kiss on me. “Ditch your security again, and I’ll pull your pants down and spank your little ass,” he whispers in my ear.

“You would not,” I hiss.

“Try me.” He winks before he’s out the door, taking Beau to camp. I can’t believe he said that to me. I also can’t believe how my nipples have hardened.

I shut the door and lock it. A happiness buzzes inside of me as I make my way back to the kitchen and clean up the breakfast mess. I could get used to this. At boarding school, some of the girls talked about different careers they wanted with such a passion. I never had that. My whole life all I’ve ever dreamed of having was a family. I wanted to graduate and get back here to take care of Beau.

The second that Beau was put into my arms, even as a young girl, I knew what I wanted in life. I wanted to be a mom. It had been the same with Drix. When he found me and told me that Beau and I were his, I knew I wanted that too. It didn’t take long for my crush to bloom in to something more. His overprotectiveness would drive me insane, but I relished it. Now I am going to have it all.

When I’m done in the kitchen, I tackle my old bedroom next. Drix sends me random sweet texts, checking in on me. Things really are going to be different. Once I get everything moved, I take a shower and find my cutest panties and bra to put on under my dress before I get myself dolled up a little. Tonight is the night. I’m going to have Drix in every way.

I dart out of the bathroom when I hear the doorbell. It’s not until I’m flipping the lock and opening the door that it dawns on me that Drix wouldn't use the doorbell. To my surprise, I see Mari standing there. I don’t recall actually ever telling her where I lived. I can tell from the expression on her face that she’s pissed.

“Hey,” I say. Shit, she’s probably pissed at me for ditching her last night. I just disappeared without a word. “Oh, gosh. I didn’t even tell you that I was leaving last night. I’m so sorry. Drix found me and took me home. No shocker there.” I let out a small laugh. She doesn’t join me. In fact, I think my words are making her even madder. “I really am sorry. It’s a good thing Drix found me, though. He thinks someone slipped something into my drink last night.” She doesn’t say anything. “I’m okay, though. Drix and I actually—”

“Aren't you going to invite me in?” She finally speaks, cutting me off.

“Yeah, sorry.” I step back, opening the door wider for her. She steps inside, her eyes bouncing around taking everything in. I went to Mari’s place yesterday. She comes from money, so Drix’s place shouldn’t be so interesting to her, but she seems very interested.

“You ruined everything. It should be me living here,” she says.

“What?” I asked, confused.

“Everything was fine until you came back. We were supposed to get married. You pretend to be some sweet innocent girl but really you stole my fiancé!” She shouts the last part, taking me off guard.

“Drix?” I ask again, unsure of what the heck she’s talking about.

“Yes, Drix!”
