The Alpha Wolf's Enemy (Wolves of Anchorage 2) - Page 43

Kyra

Fuck. Derek had tried to call her, but they’d been cut off. She’d wanted to warn him, but the line went dead. She screamed in pure frustration.

Finding out that her coven had killed Jesse was a shock to her system. She didn’t know how to process it. And it made her question every single thing she’d ever been told.

She’d felt nothing but distress ever since then.

And on top of that – it was pretty clear that Derek was her mate. She had been ignoring it as much as she could, but it was true.

She was still so conflicted.

She learned in the last few days how he felt about humans.

He was exactly the type of mate she would've wanted. She couldn't ask for a more open-minded mate.

She was still reeling from that revelation.

Of course, it was all talk at that point, he never had to put any of it in action. But for some reason she believed him.

She just didn't know what to do about it. She didn't want to hurt him. And she definitely didn't want to hurt anyone in his pack, especially not the pups. But she also didn't want to betray the vampires who'd raised her.

She was still loyal to them; without them she would've been alone. She might've died. Maybe not of starvation, but of loneliness, and they'd always reminded her of that fact. They also reminded her frequently that if she'd been raised by humans, they might've turned on her if they'd ever discovered what she was.

She'd spent the majority of her adult life hating Derek's pack, and now she found that all of that hatred was not justified. Some of it was rather irrational. She had to talk to the vampires and make them see that their plan wasn't going to work. But what if they refused to listen? She would give them the chance. If they would listen, then she would try to reason with them.

Suddenly she could feel acute distress through the bond. The bond she hadn't even realized she had formed.

She tried to call Derek, but he didn't answer. He wasn't harmed physically but something was upsetting him, so she was going to have to trust Roman at this point even if it meant Roman killed her later on.

She ran to the pack land as fast as she could, and to her shock the guard let her go right through. She ran to Roman’s cabin and banged on his door.

"Do you know where Derek is?”

“No. Kyra, what's wrong?"

"He's in danger.”

Roman smiled slightly. It was a patronizing smile. “I know you don't know him that well yet, but he really can take care of himself.”

Can he defeat a whole pack of vampires? she almost yelled, but decided to wait. Roman didn’t believe her. If she said too much, he might blame her. What if he locked her up?

Fuck. She didn’t know what to do.

“Give me your phone number,” she said. He shot her a look but did as she said, programming his number into her phone.

“Thank you,” she said, already pushing the door open.

She raced back to her car. Once she was off pack land, she stood there with her eyes closed, concentrating.

Wait… She felt something. Oh my God. She did it!

She could feel Derek was across town.

She hopped in her car and drove, going as fast as she could without getting pulled over. If a police officer did try to pull her over, she’d have to outrun the police car.

There was no time to waste.

What had she done?
