The Alpha Wolf's Enemy (Wolves of Anchorage 2) - Page 25

“Then he wouldn't come to Martinique. It's not a big enough place to hide from a wolf shifter. Surely, he would've chosen somewhere more vast, like Brazil or India or China. Somewhere that offered cities and remote landscapes,” Derek said. “He wouldn't want to get trapped. My original theory was not that he was trying to escape or hide. It was that he had just lost track of himself. He did that sometimes."

"How? Was it a mental breakdown of sorts?" she asked.

"Sometimes. Sometimes he took potions that were brewed by witches. He said it made him not think for a while. That's what I'm worried about – that he's off somewhere, lost inside his own head. I wasn't worried about him trying to run, and I wasn't worried about him hurting himself on purpose or someone else harming him. I just thought maybe he needed to regroup. It's happened before. And while I don't personally understand going off grid like that, it's always worked for him."

"But now you think something else might have happened?" she asked.

"It's just a gut feeling. I hope there's no foul play, but I'm just not sure. But I'm not ready to give up either."

She wrapped her slender arms around his waist. "We won't give up until you have answers."

He rested his cheek on the top of her head, already feeling better with just her arms around him. He didn't need a nightclub, a drink, or a random woman in his bed, just having Kyra was more than enough.

Mates. The word echoed in his head, bouncing around until he could ignore it no longer.

But he’d have to ignore it for a bit longer. They had to find Jesse first. Then he could deal with his fledgling feelings for this gorgeous shifter.
