The Alpha Wolf's Sacrifice (Wolves of Anchorage 1) - Page 61

Very slowly, he moved his knee from the shifter’s hip bones. The angry shifter stood up and shook out his fur, and then walked off, head hung in shame. Roman would have to keep an eye on him, to make sure there wasn't any lingering resentment.

Sometimes with wolves, a very basic display of strength was enough to handle the situation. Every now and then it was not. But he meant what he said. Human laws did not apply to them and if this shifter did threaten harm to his mate, he would not hesitate to end his life. It was not something Roman enjoyed or looked forward to, but sometimes it had to be done.

When he was a very young shifter and had first become Alpha, he’d had to take action in the same way. The feel of the shifter’s bones crunching underneath his hands was something he would never forget. He did not take it lightly.

He would have to point this shifter out to Everleigh so that she could be aware.

Speaking of Everleigh, he was ready to get back to her.

He brushed his hands off and finished the meeting, answering more questions. An hour later, after baring his soul and admitting his culpability, most of the pack seemed more curious than resentful.

Finally, he was finished. "Thank you all for listening to me today. I appreciate that. My door is always open."

Now he was ready to see his mate again.

He had spoiled their surprise a little bit by telling her he was ready to be her mate. He had not gotten to make a big romantic plan.

He needed to come up with something else. Everleigh lived in the human world, and she would continue to do so. He imagined that she would resume her real estate career as soon as she was settled back into Anchorage. Maybe a human proposal would work for her. She would probably want a human wedding as well. Now he could get to work on making a special proposal.

These kinds of romantic gestures were not his forte, but he wanted to show her how much he cared. He figured he should involve Eliza. She was old enough to remember a wedding and a proposal.

He also wanted to have more children with Everleigh, but he had not brought that up yet. If it never happened, Eliza was more than enough.

He went into his cabin and found a piece of notebook paper. He sat down at the kitchen table with a pen and started making a list. He owed his mate some romance.
