“Those too, but also the way you hiss, your purrs and meows.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it.” I wrapped an arm around him and hugged him close. “Thank you for not saying what I wanted was stupid or weird, given what happened.”
“No need to thank me, love. I’m here to take care of you. And it just so happens that I’m exceptionally good at taking care of you in this way.”
A laugh burst out of me, and with it the familiar joy that had been absent in the past few days. I’d always felt safe with him, but worry had clouded my mind. It was great to feel like my old self again.
Some people used kitty play and other animal role play for therapy. I’d never considered it like that, but it’d definitely helped today.
“I love you.”
“I know. And I love you too.”
He rubbed my arm and kissed my head. “Kit?”
“Do you want to get away for the weekend?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like we did in Florida. Do you want to go somewhere else?”
“Sully. You don’t have to give me extravagant things, you know. The gifts… the vacations. I just need you.”
“That may be true, but I also believe you deserve everything I can offer you. Nothing’s too great.”
I clutched his hand in mine. “Okay, but let’s stay home for now. Maybe soon I’ll feel like going somewhere new.”
“Just let me know when. I’ll be here.”
