Obsessive Boss (Bratva Brothers 4) - Page 48

"We have to try." Savannah stares at me.

"It's not going to make things any better with the bratva." Doesn't she realize that even if she fixes things with her previous employer, she can't just go back to the way things were?

"He's right," Declan says. "We can't stop the bratva from putting a target on both of your heads. But living out here, they won't find you. We'll make sure of it."

I wish I were as confident as Declan regarding the bratva. "Nikita knows our whereabouts, and while he's on our side now, how long will that last?" I don't like sitting around when we can get hunted down at any moment.

"You don't trust your friend?" Declan asks. "Because you came here on his authority."

"Declan is right. Nikita won't sell us out. If he did, he'd be digging his own grave because he shot and killed Dmitri."

I exhale a heavy breath. "I hope you both are right." I'm inclined to get our papers and jet out of town at the next opportunity. But where would we go, and how far can we get? We need help. I don't have access to my finances, and neither does Savannah.

"You'll stay here temporarily. We'll set up surveillance equipment on and around the property, along with an alarm system. I can assure you that you both will be safe," Declan says.

Savannah's shoulders seem to relax, trusting him.

I want to trust Declan, but I've been betrayed before. Not that I think he'd intentionally screw us over. If he wanted to do that, he could have already informed the police or bureau of our whereabouts.

Instead, he brought us dinner and groceries.

The man seems on the right side of the law and honest, which doesn't bode well for me. Not that the feds have an ounce of dirt on me. Savannah swears she gave them nothing, which means anything they've conjured up has to be a lie.

"And what about jobs? We'll need money since we can't access our accounts," I ask.

I suspect that Declan is already thinking ahead, but I still want to ensure everything is planned accordingly and accounted for. It wasn't like I thought that far ahead.

"If you remain in Breckenridge, I'm sure Savannah's skills will be useful to our team. I can't make any promises, but I think we could find some type of opportunity for her." Declan stares at me. "What skills do you have that can help make you an honest living?"

I try not to be offended by his question. "I ran a club back in New York. I handled the books for the club along with payroll."

"I'll bet you did," Declan mutters a little too loudly. "I can ask around. Assuming that you're both staying in town."

"Can we talk about it?" I ask, wanting to discuss it with Savannah a little more thoroughly.

Declan heads for the front door. "Yeah, just let me know what you both decide."
