Love and War with the Billionaire - Page 41

“You think that was funny?” Maddox said and stood.

Mila retreated around the opposite side of the boxing ring as she laughed. “Yes, I do.”

Maddox gripped the ropes and stared across at her in challenge. She would never be able to outrun him. Even without her heels.

He bent down, peering at her through the ropes with a glimmer in his eyes. “You can’t hide over there forever.”

Mila slipped out of her heels. She’d come back for them later.

Then, she bolted for the door. Within reach of her destination, Maddox grabbed her by the waist and spun her around. They collided and lost balance, tumbling onto the carpet. When the dust settled, Maddox stared down at her and all she could hear was her heart pounding in her head.

“You were close,” Maddox said in a low voice.

Why was she happy she didn’t outrun him? More to the point, why was she certain she didn’t even try?

Before she could think of any response, his phone blared, which startled both of them. Maddox scowled, then reluctantly stood and helped her up.

Then, he answered his phone. Realizing that whatever had just happened was over, Mila quietly grabbed her shoes and slipped out while he faced the windows.
